A third time he (Pilate) said to them, (chief priests and scribes) “Why, what evil has He (Jesus) done? I have found in Him no crime deserving death; I will therefore chastise Him and release Him.” Luke 23:22
Lord how interesting that even though Pilate could not find anything wrong with what You had done he was still going to chastise You. You were innocent. Pilate knew You were innocent but You were still going to be given a talking to as if You were wrong.
Thank You Lord for showing us what to do when we are falsely accused.
Thank You for always being with us to bring comfort.
Thank You that we can know we are right because of You.
Thank You for Your understanding and unconditional love that knows no limits.
Thank You Lord.

But they (chief priests and scribes) all cried out together, “Away with this man and release to us Barabbas” –a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city, and for murder. Luke 23:18, 19
Lord this is hard to understand apart from knowing the end of the story. It certainly allows us to see the hearts of men that are driven by hate.
Thank You Lord for changing us into Your image when we cry out to You.
Thank You for melting our hearts of stone.
Thank You for shedding Your light on our pathway.
Thank You that with You we can face each day with a smile.
Thank You Lord.

Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this Man (Jesus) as one who was perverting the people; and after examining Him before you, behold, I did not find this Man guilty of any of your charges against Him; neither did Herod, for he sent Him back to us. Behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him; I will therefore chastise Him and release Him.” Luke 23:13 – 16
Lord we all know the rest of this story. We all know that in the end these men thought they won.
Thank You Lord for standing trial for us.
Thank You for all You endured.
Thank You for knowing why You came and what You would go through.
Thank You that even though there were those that tried to destroy You there was victory in the end.
Thank You for the victory we have in our lives today because of You.

And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other. Luke 23:12
Lord it is so interesting to learn what happened between two men that were being asked by the scribes and chief priests to destroy you. They became friends – amazing – when they were enemies before.
Thank You Lord for the mysteries of life.
Thank You that we don’t need to know everything we just need to follow You.
Thank You for faith to believe.

And Herod with his soldiers treated Him (Jesus) with contempt and mocked Him; then, arraying Him in georgeous apparel, he sent Him back to Pilate. Luke 23:11
Lord none of this was surprising to You. You knew their thoughts and You saw their hearts.
Thank You Lord that You see our hearts and You know our thoughts.
Thank You that we can rejoice this Christmas season because You came to earth for us.
Thank You for these readings right now because while I rejoice in Your coming I can also understand what You went through while here.
Christmas means so much more when we realize who You were and why You came.
Thank You for the celebration of Your birth.

The chief priests and scribes stood by, vehemently accusing Him (Jesus). Luke 23:10
Lord there were those that didn’t want Herod to see anything but their side of the story. They didn’t want You to let Jesus go. They had found him guilty already.
Thank You Lord for always seeing the big picture.
Thank You for knowing our hearts.
Thank You for the love You place within us and the desire to be all that You want us to be.
Thank You for the strength You give us to follow You.

So he (Herod) questioned Him (Jesus) at some length; but He made no answer. Luke 23:9
Lord how interesting that Herod had wanted to talk with You for a long time and here You were in front of him. He could ask You whatever he wanted to. You were really at his mercy as a prisoner.
Thank You Lord that You are always there to listen to us.
Thank You too that as in Herod’s questioning with all the scribes and priests listening You know exactly what to say or not to say.
Thank You for those times when You are silent with us because You know our requests are not reasonable either.
Thank You for knowing ALL things and wanting the very best for each of our lives.

When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see Him because He had heard about Him and he was hoping to see some sign done by Him. Luke 23:8
Lord as many times as I have read this story and heard the story I must say that I have totally missed seeing this verse. How fascinating that Herod would be glad to see You. His wish had come true although it certainly was not in the way he had hoped for.
Thank You Lord for opening our eyes of understand.
Thank You for revelations that help us draw closer to You.
Thank You for giving each of us an opportunity to come to You and to know You personally.
Thank You for giving Pilate and Herod an opportunity to accept You for who You were.
Oh how blessed we are Lord because You call us to follow You.

When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the Man (Jesus) was a Galilean. And when he learned that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. Luke 23:6, 7
Lord we call this ‘passing the buck.’ Getting out of whatever we can get out of because we don’t want to deal with it. Pilate found a way out so he could still please those that were trying to do You in.
Once again Lord I am so grateful that You knew the hearts and minds of those that were there that day.
Thank You for knowing our hearts and minds today.
Thank You for calling us on to become more and more like You.
Thank You for helping us obey You Lord because at times that is not an easy thing to do.
Oh how blessed we are and Christmas reminds us of Your coming to earth to give us the greatest gift of all.
