Thought For Today

But they (chief priests and scribes) were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”  Luke 23:5

Lord these men were not being honest.  They were accusing You of something that was totally different than what was going on.  They were out to get You even if they had to lie about You.  How easy it is for us to find fault with them but oh how often we are the same when others see things differently than we do.

Thank You Lord for Your forgiveness.

Thank You for seeing our motives and desires.

Thank You for loving us just as we are but loving us too much to allow us to go in the wrong direction.

Oh how blessed we are to have You on our side loving us unconditionally.

Thank You!   Thank You Lord.

And Pilate asked Him, (Jesus) “Are You the King of the Jews?”  And He answered him, “You have said so.”  Luke 23:3, 4

Lord what a tremendous responsibility Pilate had.  These angry men that were trying to do You in brought You to Pilate and wanted him to agree with them and destroy You.  What was he to do.  Who was he to side with.  Lord there are those many times in our lives when we too find it difficult to choose.

Thank You Lord that being who You were and knowing the hearts of these men allowed You to know just the right words to say.

Thank You for giving us the insight to know what to do and what to say when we ask for Your guidance.

Thank You Lord that we are never alone on our journey here because You are always there to guide and direct us.

Oh how thankful we are Lord to have You at our side.

And they (chief priests and scribes) began to accuse Him, (Jesus) saying, “We found this Man perverting our nation, and forbidding us to give Him tribute to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ a king.”  Luke 23:2

Lord it is so hard to be falsely accused.  Thank You for taking this abuse for us.

Thank You that with You strength and power we too can stand up.

Thank You for helping us when we are weak.

Thank You for giving us the strength to go on each day.

Thank You that we can KNOW that You are always with us to give us just what we need when we need it.

Then the whole company of them arose, and brought Him (Jesus) before Pilate.  Luke 23:1

Lord it would have been very hard to have been in Your shoes.  These men were out to do you in.  They wanted to have you destroyed and they were going to do whatever it took to get that done.

Thanks You Lord for loving us enough to go through all You went through for us.

Thank You for being our example.

Thank You that with You at our side we can have the confidence we need to help us through each challenge in life.

Oh how wonderful to have You with us each step of life’s journey.

Thank You.   Thank You Lord.

And they (chief priests and scribes) all said, “Are You the Son of God, then?”  And He (Jesus) said to them, “You say that I am.”  And they said, “What further testimony do we need?  We have heard it ourselves from His own lips.”  Luke 22:70, 71

Lord this was one of those times in Your life when it didn’t matter what You said or what You didn’t say these men had already made up their minds that You needed to be destroyed.  They were accusing You and had already found You guilty and they were trying to get You to give them a reason.

Thank You Lord for Your knowledge and insight that knew their thoughts and motives.

Thank You for our God given abilities to know the pitfalls today in our own lives.

Thank You that the more we keep our eyes upon You and Your way the more we are able to stand tall and serve You.

Thank You for always being with us and Your promise to never give us more than we can tolerate.

Oh how blessed we are Lord to have You as our rock.

When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led Him (Jesus) away to their council, and they said, “If You are the Christ, tell us.”  But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe; and if I ask you, you will not answer.  But from now on the Son of man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”  Luke 22: 66 – 69

Lord we can wonder why these men did not see You for who You truly were and yet are we any different ourselves.  We read Your words and know this history and yet we often find that we are not doing what we know to do.  It is so easy for us to want our own way too.

Thank You Lord for Your patience with us.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.

Thank You for the joy of this season when we celebrate Your birth.

Thank You Lord.

Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked Him and beat Him; they also blindfolded Him and asked Him, “Prophesy!  Who is it that struck You?”  And they spoke many other words against Him, reviling Him.  Luke 22:63 – 65

Thank You Lord for the abuse You took for us.

Thank You for loving us enough to die for us.

Thank You that we have life eternal because of You.

How blessed we are Lord because of the sacrifices You made for us.

Thank You for giving Your all.

Thank You!  Thank You Lord.

But he (Peter) denied it, (that he was with Jesus) saying, “Woman, I do not know Him. (Jesus)”  And a little later some one else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”  But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”  And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with Him; for he is a Galilean.”  But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying.”  And immediately, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed.  And the Lord turned and looked at Peter.  And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, “Before the cock crows today you will deny me three times.”  And he went out and wept bitterly.  Luke 22:57 – 62

Lord it is so easy to find fault with Peter and others when we see them stumble and fall.  Peter never dreamed that he would deny that he was Your follower and yet he did.

Thank You Lord for showing us first of all that You know all things and see our hearts and our motives.

Thank You that You are always ready to forgive us when we see the errors of our way and ask Your forgiveness.

Thank You for allowing us to come to You with repentant hearts.

Thank You for changing us from the inside out.

Thank You for peace – a peace that passes all human understanding.

Thank You Lord.

Then a maid, seeing him (Peter) as he sat in the light and gazing at him, said, “This man also was with him (Jesus).”  Luke 22:56

Lord, Peter is about to be exposed and all that You told Peter is going to come to pass.

Thank You Lord for knowing all about us even before anything happens.

Thank You that You promised that You would never give us more than we could handle.

Thank You that You are always there for our cries.

Thank You for the comfort that only You can bring.

Thank You for strength to endure.

Then they (chief priests and captains) seized Him (Jesus) and led Him away, bringing Him into the high priest’s house.  Peter followed at a distance; and when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.  Luke 22:54

Lord thank You for all You went through for us.

Thank You that even though You knew the price You would pay You were willing to go through it for us.

Thank You that we have eternal life today because You gave Your life for us.

Thank You for Your gift to us that is free for the asking.

Thank You for Your love that is unconditional.
