Thought For Today

(Jesus continued)  “But I will warn you who to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him!”  Luke 12:5

Lord You warned and warned the multitudes as they came to listen to You.

Here again in this verse You are warning them once again that they needed be aware of who would determine their fate.

We know the end of the story Lord.  We know they still didn’t believe and sent You to the cross.

Thank You Lord that You never gave up telling everyone how to come to You.

Thank You that it is with repentant hearts that we find true peace in our live.

Thank You for all You have done to bring us to You.

Thank You for dying for me that I might be free and have eternal life.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.”  Luke 12:4

Thank You Lord that the body is just what we live in while here on earth.

Thank You that we are more than our bodies.

Thank You for giving us eternal life when we ask You to give it to us.

Thank You for faith to believe and trust You.

We have it all because we have You Lord.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.”  Luke 12:3

Lord again today I have to thank You for telling these Pharisees that they were not getting away with their thoughts or their actions.

Thank You for giving them so many illustrations that showed them that You knew them inside and out.  Their every thought and their every motive was seen by You.

Thank You that You could say the very same thing to us if You were on this earth today.  You know our thoughts and you know our motives.

Thank You for Your forgiveness and unconditional love.

Thank You that we don’t have to be perfect but we do have to be humble and ask for Your forgiveness.

Thank You for always holding out Your hand to us and forgiving.

We are blessed.

In the meantime, when so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they trod upon one another, He (Jesus) began to say to His disciples first, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.”  Luke 12:1

Thank You Lord for seeing our hearts and understanding us.

Thank You for exposing the hypocrisy of the Pharisees.

Thank You that You saw that they were not honest and truthful.

Thank You that You saw that everything they did was for show and to impress others.

Thank You that You forgave them when they ask for it just as You forgive us when we ask.

Thank You for loving us all and calling us all to Yourself.

What a gift that is and I thank You.

As He (Jesus) went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press Him hard, and to provoke Him to speak of many things, lying in wait for Him, to catch at something He might say.  Luke 11:53, 54
 
Lord how sad it is that there were those that were listening to Your every word with an ulterior motive.  They wanted to trip You up in something You would say.  They wanted to try and discredit You.  You had exposed them and they wanted to retaliate.
 
Thank You Lord that when we follow You we know Your words are truth.
 
Thank You that we know there is nothing that we could ever see or say that could ever trip You up because all is truth.
 
Thank You that even though many today still try and find fault with what You say and do -we know differently. 
 
Thank You that we have the witness of the Spirit within us that all is truth.
 
Thank You that Your sheep know Your voice.
 
Thank You for this great gift Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Woe to you lawyers! for you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.”  Luke 11:52

Lord these lawyers sure had a lot hanging over their heads.

They sure did a lot of things that were not right.

Lord the people of that day knew the things were not right as well as You knew it.

They had caused a lot of injury because of what they had done.

Thank You Lord that You are there to listen to us and help us know the right things to do and say.

Thank You that the closer we are to You the more we hear Your gentle voice that guides us.

Thank You that we are forgiven when we ask because in our human state we are sure far from perfect.

Thank You for always picking us up and calling us on to be more like You.

Thank You for the joy of serving You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’ that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.  Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation.”  Luke 11:49 – 51

Thank You Lord that You always give us the opportunity to do the right thing.

Thank You that You never leave us or forsake us.

That You for Your love for us in spite of our shortcomings.

Thank You for hearing when we call out to You for help and insight.

Thank You for loving us unconditionally.

We are Yours and we are blessed.

(Jesus continued)  “Woe to you! for you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed.  So you are witnesses and consent to the deeds of your fathers; for they killed them, and you build their tombs.”  Luke 11:47, 48.

Lord thank You that You know all about us.

Thank You for exposing the deeds of the lawyer that was trying to act so innocent.

Thank You that nothing is hidden from You.

Thank You that by seeing all You know how to work with each of us to bring us closer to You.

You are our gift.  We are blessed and changed when we follow You.

And He (Jesus) said, “Woe to you lawyers also! for you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.”  Luke 11:46

Lord it is interesting that this lawyer found fault with You for the way You were talking about the Pharisees.  You pointed out that he was not being fair to those he served because he was causing hardship to others by his actions. He himself didn’t lift a finger to help in any way.

Lord it is so easy for us to find fault with others and yet we never see those things in our lives that are not please to You.

Thank You Lord that You hear our cries for forgiveness.

Thank You that You ask us to come to You and ask for Your help to change our ways that are not pleasing to You.

Thank You for wanting us to become more and more like You.

Thank You for showing us there is help and we can become different with Your help.

Oh to be like You Lord.  Oh to be like You.

Thank You Lord that with You all things are possible.

Thank You for my hope that lies within and faith to believe for the impossible.

Thank You Lord.

One of the lawyers answered Him, (Jesus) “Teacher, in saying this you reproach us also.”  Luke 11:45

Lord this lawyer spoke up and told You what he thought about the way You were talking to the Pharisees.

He put himself at the same level as the Pharisees.

At least he was willing to admit it.

Perhaps he was afraid that You were going to expose him next and he wanted to keep You from doing that so he tried to tell You how wrong You were to talk to the Pharisees as You did.

Thank You Lord that You don’t cut us slack when we are doing things that don’t please You.

Thank You for pointing out those things in our lives that do not please You.

Thank You for giving us the power to change into Your image.

Thank You for being patient during the process because it can often take us a very long time to finally get it right.

Thank You for never giving up on us but always waiting with opened arms.

We are blessed.  We have much to thank You for Lord.
