Thought For Today

But He (Jesus) told them, (disciples) “The kings of the nations lord it over them and their authorities are called benefactors.  But you are not to be that way.  Instead, the most prominent among you must be as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.  Luke 20:25, 26

Thank You Lord for teaching us we need to be a servant.

Thank You for the peace and joy You give when we truly put You first in our lives and serve You.

Thank You that we don’t have to give up our egos without Your help.  Oh how we need Your help Lord.

Thank You for always calling us on to be more than we could ever be without You.

Thank You Lord.

There also was a controversy among them, who of them should be considered most important.

Luke 20:24

Lord it seems our human nature comes out all the time making us want to be someone special.   Here were Your twelve disciples sitting around the table with You trying to be the most important.  Forgive us Lord.  Help us keep our eyes focused upon You and know that we are all equal and important.  None of us is greater than anyone else.  All our gifts and talents are given by You.  We are all loved unconditionally by You and called to follow You.

Thank You Lord for Your patience with these men as they talked.

Lord we are just like them and how I thank You for Your patience with me when I take my eyes off of You and begin to think and act in ways that are not pleasing to You.

Thank You for helping me see a better way to live.

We have everything we need in You Lord and I thank You.

And they (disciples) started to inquire among themselves who of them might possibly be going to do this (betray Jesus).  Luke 22:23

Lord how difficult this statement that someone would betray You must have been for Your disciples that were such a tight knit group.  It is very hard to know that someone among you is doing the opposite of what is trying to be accomplished.  These were your followers that loved and trusted You.

Thank You Lord for Your help in keeping us true to our faith.

Thank You for helping us see the snares that would so easily pull us away from You.

Thank You for giving us eyes of understanding and hearts that are true to You.

Thank You for letting us hear Your voice in those difficult times in our lives.

Thank You that with Your help we can keep focused on You and make the right choices.

(Jesus continued)  “However the hand of My betrayer is with Me at the table; for the Son of Man goes indeed, as we determined, but alas for that man by whom He is betrayed.”  Luke 20:21

Lord we know the rest of this story but these disciples sitting around the table didn’t have any idea who this could be.  I am sure their thoughts and eyes wondered around the table wondering who it was.  How could someone from such a tight knit group do such a thing.

Thank You Lord for showing us our hearts and what we ourselves are capable of.

Thank You for giving us the power to overcome and be different.

Thank You for forgiving us when we see the things You expose and ask forgiveness.

Oh how blessed we are to be able to make the changes that You call us to make to become more and more like You.

(Jesus continued)  Similarly He gave the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new Covenant in My blood, poured out on your behalf.  Luke 22:20

Lord once again what must the disciples have thought when you talked about Your blood being poured out on their behalf.  You were with them.  You were there sharing this Passover meal with them.  All was well.

Thank You Lord that these disciples that show us how to trust in You without knowing everything You were talking about.

Thank You too Lord for those times in our lives when we don’t have all the answers and yet we know You are calling us and we obey.

Thank You for faith to believe and trust as we follow You.

You are with us Lord.  You are guiding and directing our lives.  We are Your sheep and we hear Your voice.  Oh how we praise and thank You.

(Jesus continued)  And taking the bread, He gave thanks, broke and gave it to them (disciples) saying, “This is My body given up for your sakes; do this in My memory.”  Luke 22:19

Lord this is such an interesting event because You were still with the disciples.  They must have wondered – how could they have helped but wonder.  You were telling them this was in Your memory and yet You were right there with them.

Thank You Lord for faith and trust.

Thank You for knowing the beginning and the end.

Thank You for calling us on today to become more and more like You.

Thank You for showing us how much You loved the disciples and how much You love us too.

Thank You Lord that You want the best for us and You see our hearts and our desires.

Thank You Lord.

Taking the cup in His (Jesus) hands, He gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I tell you, I shall from now on never again drink the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”  Luke 22:17, 18

Thank You Lord that we can trust You.

Thank You for the faith to believe just as these disciples believed even though they did not understand all You were telling them.

Thank You for hearing our cries and answering.

Thank You for the peace it brings when we know You are always there.

Thank You Lord.

And when the hour came, He (Jesus) sat at table, and the apostles with Him.  And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”  Luke 22:14 – 16

Lord, You knew all and had to walk through each event in Your life.  We don’t have a script for our lives.  We don’t know what the future holds for us.  You know and You love us unconditionally and want the very best for our lives.

Thank You Lord that You are with us to bring joy and peace.

Thank You for a peace within that passes all human understanding when we trust in You.

Thank You that You are always there when we cry out to You.

Oh how blessed we are because we know You hold the script for our lives.

He (Jesus) said to them, (Peter and John)  “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters, and tell the householder, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I am to eat the Passover with my disciples?’  And he will show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready.”  And they went, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover.  Luke 22:10 – 13

Lord what must have been going through these men’s heads as they listen to what You were telling them.  They didn’t question You and ask You how You knew about the man carrying the jar of water.  They just obeyed and went.

Thank You Lord for the times You show us over and over that we are not to question You but only obey.

Thank You for the confidence these men showed in You and the confidence we too can have in You today.

Thank You for the knowledge that You give us when You tell us that all things in our lives will work together for Your good because we are trusting You.

Oh how blessed we are to be able to walk and talk with You.

They (Peter and John) asked Him (Jesus), “Where do you want us to prepare it (for the Passover)?  Luke 22:9

Thank You Lord for Peter and John and their willingness to do as You asked.

Thank You for their questions because we read here that they didn’t just run ahead and do what they wanted they asked You.

Lord what a wonderful lesson for us to learn in our daily walk with You.  How easy it is to run ahead and do what WE think is right rather than take a moment and ask You what You would like us to do.

Thank You Lord that You are there to guide and direct and it is the BEST way for us to go.

We have it all when we keep our eyes and thoughts on You.
