Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him. And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on His head, and arrayed Him in a purple robe; they came up to Him saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck Him with their hands. Psalms 19:1 – 3
Lord it is hard to read what You went through for us. This is not a very pretty picture. Pilate had given the crowd of Jews a choice of who to let go and they had chosen a criminal. All for us Lord. You did it all for us.
Thank You Lord.

They (crowd of Jews) cried out again, “Not this man but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber. John 18:40
Lord, Pilate was trying to get out of putting You in prison or killing You. He asked the crowd who they wanted released. They said they wanted Barabbas released. They wanted You in prison. So this is how the scripture was fulfilled. You came to Your own and they did not receive You.
Thank You Lord that You give each one of us the chance to come to You.
Oh the joy we have when we turn our lives over to You and Your control.
Thank You for guiding and directing our lives.
Thank You for calling us to ‘come follow You.’
Thank You Lord.

Pilate had just told the Jews that he found no crime in Jesus. He continues, “But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover; will you have me release for you the King of the Jews?” John 18:39
Thank You Lord for men like Pilate who try and make things right.
Thank You for those that are on our side and believe in us.
Thank You Lord that You always know the truth.
Thank You for always believing in us.
Thank You that we can always run to You and You are always there.
Thank You Lord.

Pilate said to Him, (Jesus) “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears My voice” Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again, and told them, “I find no crime to Him.” John 18:37, 38
Lord once again what I see is that being innocent didn’t help You. You were accused of being guilty in spite of the fact that You were totally innocent. And yet…all that was happening to You was okay because You told Pilate that this was why you came into the world.
Thank You Lord that we know the truth and we understand.
Thank You for bearing witness to the truth.
Thank You that we too can bear witness to the truth.
Oh how blessed we are that we are Your children.
Humbly we thank You…. Thank You Lord.

Pilot has asked Jesus if He was the King of the Jews. Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord or did others say it to you about Me?” Pilot answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed You over to me. What have You done?” John 18:34, 35
Lord, I am not sure if Pilot knew these answers and was trying to see what You would say or if he was really not sure why You had been turned over to him. The reason doesn’t really matter. What matters most is that You were innocent and were being blamed for something You did not do. You were not guilty and yet You were to be tried as someone guilty.
Thank You Lord for knowing how we feel when we are falsely accused.
Thank You for knowing our thoughts and motives.
Thank You for always being with us.
Oh how blessed we are Lord because You paid the price for us.
Thank You Lord.

Pilot entered the praetorium again and called Jesus and said to Him, “Are You the king of the Jews?” John 18:33
Thank You Lord for being our example.
Thank You for staying true to Your mission on this earth.
Thank You for taking this abuse to redeem us.
It was Your mission and we thank You.
Thank You Lord.

So Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” They answered him, “If this man were not an evildoer, we would not have handed Him over.” John 18:29, 30
Lord I am reminded of the scripture that says, “He came unto His own and His own received Him not.”
These men were out to destroy You. You did nothing wrong but they didn’t like the popularity You had gained and they wanted you dead. They were going to do all within their power to accomplish it.
There are times in our lives Lord when we feel like that also. There are those that are jealous and want to destroy us too.
Thank You for understand when we cry out to You for help.
Thank You for always being there to comfort and cheer us on.
We love You Lord.
Thank You! Thank You Lord.

Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the praetorium, it was early. They themselves did not enter the praetorium, so that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover. John 18:28
Lord this picture that is painted here is very interesting. You were taken from Caiaphas’ house to what sounds like an outbuilding. Apparently when entering this outbuilding it would cause the person entering to be defiled. Since that was the case You were put there alone. Once again Lord we see what they were doing to You. This would eliminate You being able to eat the Passover. You were considered defiled.
Lord, as we learn more and more about these last days of Yours upon the earth it is with gratitude we bow before You and say, “Thank You.”
Thank You for paying the price for our sin.
Thank You for coming to earth for us.
Thank You for opening our eyes of understanding and showing us Your way.
Oh how grateful we all are that You came to earth for us.
Thank You Lord.

One of the servants of the high priest, a kinsman of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I see you in the garden with Him?” Peter again denied it and at once the cock crowed. John 18:26, 27
Once again Lord, Peter was not willing to say he was with You. Once again he feared for his own life. It was bad enough he was watching what You were going through. You had told him he would deny he ever knew You and the cock would crow. What a reminder that must have been when he heard that crow. It must have been a very sad moment for him.
Lord we know that Peter loved You and yet he was weak and could not stand the test. We too are human and weak.
Thank You Lord for being our strength.
Thank You for always being there when we cry out to You.
Oh how blessed we are Lord because You love us unconditionally…..faults and all……
Thank You! Thank You Lord.

Now Simon Peter was standing warming himself, they (officers) said to him, “Are not you also one of His (Jesus) disciples?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” John 18:25
Lord, once again Peter is asked if he is Your disciple and he denied it.
Lord it is very hard to stand up for what you believe in when there are those that are going to take your life from you. That is what Peter was thinking. They already had carted you off ‘bound’ and now Peter knew that could be his fate too. He wanted to save His own life. He couldn’t help You at this point but he could save his own life if he denied that he was following You. So…that is exactly what he did.
What are we to learn from Peter’s experience? Will we stand the test when it is our turn?
Lord, thank You for being with us to help us.
Thank You for being there in the most difficult hours of our lives. You care.
Thank You for the victory we experience when we keep our eyes upon You.
We CAN stand the test with Your help.
Thank You. Thank You Lord.
