Then He (Jesus) said to them, (Peter and the two sons of Zebedee) “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with Me.” Matthew 26:38
And it was all for us Lord. You suffered and died for our sin. You had no sin. You experienced sorrow because You knew You were going to the cross. You knew what You were going to go through.
Thank You Lord for dying for me.
Thank You for dying for my sin.
Thank You for paying the price for me.
Oh how I thank You.
Thank You Lord.

And (Jesus) taking with Him (to Gethsemane) Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to be sorrowful and troubled. Matthew 26:36
Lord, it is amazing how many times we can read something and never see what it is saying. Today the ‘sorrowful and troubled’ stand out when I read this verse. You were ‘sorrowful and troubled’ because of what was ahead of You. You took three of Your disciples to be with You. You didn’t go alone. You wanted someone with You.
Lord it is so easy for us to condemn ourselves for being ‘sorrowful and troubled’ but that was a part of Your life too. Why should I be so hard on myself and question myself as to where is my faith…… Why aren’t I trusting You more.
Thank You for showing me that in my human state it is okay to be ‘sorrowful and troubled.’ It is a part of being a human. You were here as a man and felt what we feel and enjoyed what we enjoy. You too were ‘sorrowful and troubled’ and it is okay if I am too at times knowing that just as Your Father helped You I will be helped through it all too.
Oh how I love that thought! It is so, so freeing.
Thank You.
Thank You Lord.

Then Jesus went with them (His disciples) to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to His disciples, “Sit here, while I go yonder and pray.” Mathew 26:36
Prayer is a wonderful gift to all of us today.
It is amazing, truly amazing that we can talk with You in prayer just as You talked with Your Father in the garden of Gethsemane.
Oh how blessed we are to have prayer a part of our lives.
How I love talking with You as I write Your thoughts to me.
Thank YOU!!!!! Oh how I thank You and feel so, so blessed.
Thank You Lord.

Peter declared to Him, (Jesus) “Though they all fall away because of You, I will never fall away.” Jesus said to him, “Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny Me three times.” Peter said to Him, “Even if I must die with You, I will not deny You.” And so said all the disciples. Matthew 26:33 – 35
Lord, so often we want to be strong and we think we will be …..and then we buckle under pressure.
These disciple thought they could never do what they did. They loved You. …but ….when it came time to saying they were Your disciples they buckled under the pressure. They were just as human as we are today. They were not perfect even though they had walked with You.
Thank You Lord for loving us unconditionally. Oh how we need that love and understanding.
Thank You for seeing our hearts and knowing our motives. Oh how we need that too Lord.
You are always with us and we thank You.
Thank You Lord.

Then Jesus said to them, (His disciples) “You will all fall away because of Me this night; for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” Matthew 26:31, 32
Lord, looking at life after the fact reveals a lot of unanswered questions. These men certainly did not understand what all was taking place. I sure would have had a lot of question if I was with them.
You gave them hope Lord even though they didn’t understand everything You told them You would see them in Galilee.
Hope is a wonderful gift. Hope gives us something to hold on to until it becomes reality.
Thank You Lord for the gift of hope.
Thank You.
Thank You Lord.

And when they (Jesus and His disciples) had sung a hymn they went out to the Mount of Olives. Matthew 26:30
Lord, Your last supper with Your disciples had ended and now You went up to the Mount of Olives. I picture it as a restful place to sit and talk.
Thank You for restful places in our lives Lord. The beauty of the sunrise making the clouds look all pink yesterday morning brought serenity to my soul. It was breathtaking looking up at the sky and the river. Your masterpiece. Your gift to us. Thank You for those beautiful gifts of nature that give us a sense of relaxation like nothing else can. The hummingbird buzzing around the feeder cautiously. The yellow finches on the sun flowers. Lord, I am so blessed to have these all before me to enjoy. They draw me closer to You as I thank You for each one of Your gifts and blessings.
Thank You.
Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued at the last supper.) “I tell you (disciples) I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Matthew 26:29
Lord, how fortunate we are today because we know the whole story. Your disciples were living through what we can read about and learn from.
Thank You for inspiring Matthew to write what he did.
Thank You for the insights You give us as we trust in You and read Your words.
Oh how we thank and praise You.
Thank You Lord.

Now as they (disciples) were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:26 – 29
Lord, we all know this was Your last supper. You were trying to prepare Your disciple to be ready when You left them.
Thank You for the tradition we have today of eating Your body and Your blood in remembrance of Your death for our sins.
Oh how blessed we are Lord. Thank You.
Thank You Lord.

Judas, who betrayed Him (Jesus) said, “Is it I, Master?” He said to him, “You have said so.” Matthew 26:25
Lord, Judas answer was no surprise to You. You knew it was him all along. You saw his motives and his desirers.
Thank You Lord for knowing our deep thoughts and motives.
Thank You that there are nothing that is a secret to You.
Oh how good it is to know that You are always with us.
Thank You Lord.

(Jesus disciples asked who would betray Him.) He (Jesus) answered, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with Me, will betray Me. The Son of man goes as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born. Matthew 26:23, 24
Thank You Lord for watching over us and caring for us.
Thank You for Your help on this important journey called life.
Thank You for knowing all about us – our strengths and our weaknesses – and still loving us unconditionally.
Oh how blessed we are to be called Your children. Thank YOU!
Thank You Lord.
