(Jesus continued) “Do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once send Me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” Matthew 26:53, 54

Oh Lord how wonderful it would be if we had the confidence in You like You had in Your Father. You knew there was nothing that He could not do. You had seen it all and You knew what You were capable of. It was Your choice not to call for help. It was Your desire to go through all of this for us.

Oh how we thank You. Thank You for giving Your all for me. I love You Lord! Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

And behold one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear. Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once send Me more than twelve legions of angels?” Matthew 26:51, 52

Thank You Lord for coming to earth. Thank You that even though You knew what You would endure You came anyway.

Thank You for Your patience and understand when we try and take things into our own hands.

You are always with us….Oh how we thank You!

Thank You Lord.

Jesus said to him, (Judas) “Friend, why are you here?” Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized Him. Matthew 26:50

This was no surprise to You Lord. You knew this was going to happen. You knew all along that Judas loved money more than he loved You. And yet You called him ‘friend.’

Thank You Lord for loving each one of us unconditionally.

Thank You for calling us to ‘come’ follow You.

Oh how I thank You and praise You for all You have given me.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

Now the betrayer (Judas) had given them (the great crowd) a sign, saying, “The one I shall kiss is the man; seize Him.” And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Hail, Master!” And he kissed Him. Matthew 26:48, 49

Lord, You knew all along what was going to happen and even told Your disciples at the last supper what to expect.

Judas was a man that put on a good front and in the end betrayed You. How sad!

You came to earth to die for us and we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

While He (Jesus) was still speaking, (to His disciples) Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Matthew 26:47

Lord, You knew what was going to happen. You had just finished telling Your disciples that You would be betrayed into the hands of sinners. And…here was Judas….we know what happened next. We know who Your betrayer was. You knew what Judas would do too because You had told the disciples what was going to happen.

Thank You for choosing to die for me Lord. Thank You for enduring the cross for me. Thank You for eternal life that is mine today because I have asked You to be my Lord and my God. Oh how I thank You for all You have given me.

Thank You Lord.

(In the garden of Gethsemane) Then He (Jesus) came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going; see, My betrayer is at hand.” Matthew 26:45, 46

Thank You Lord! Thank You for coming to earth to give us Your gift of life …..eternal life. We are Your children and we will spend all eternity with You. How can we ever thank You enough for all we have been given.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

And again He (Jesus) came and found them (His disciples) sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. Matthew 26:43

Lord, Your disciples just couldn’t stay awake to pray with You. They fell asleep again. They were tired. You understood and left them and went back to pray again.

Thank You Lord for understanding our weaknesses.

Thank You for loving us so unconditionally – even when we fall short of all You want for our lives.

Oh how great to know Your love is with us always.

Thank You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus in Gethsemane) Again, for the second time, He (Jesus) went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, Thy will be done.” Matthew 26:42

“Thy will be done.” Lord those are so hard for us to speak at times in our lives also.

There are things in our lives that are very hard to understand why they are happening and all we can say is – We don’t understand it Lord but ‘Thy will be done.’

‘Thy will be done.’ You know what is best for us Lord and we must say, ‘Thy will be done.’ It was very hard for You to say that as we have read leading up to this verse and it is very hard for us to say it at times too. You were given the power to say it and we are too. It isn’t easy for us but we know You understand and will help us.

Oh how we need You and thank You for being with us.

Thank You Lord.

(At Gethsemane) And He (Jesus) came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and He said to Peter, “So could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:40, 41

Lord who of us have not fallen asleep praying. Your disciples sure did and so have I.

Oh how often I have thought about this verse and know that indeed the spirit was very willing but the flesh was very weak. Oh how weak we truly are without You Lord. You make all the difference in our lives. You are our rudder to keep us on course and keep us going straight. Oh how great to know that You are always there.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane with Peter and the two sons of Zebedee) And going a little further He (Jesus) fell on His face and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” Matthew 26:39

Lord, today we know how this story ended. We know what You would go through. We know it was for our sin that You endured all of this.

Oh how we thank You. Oh how we praise You. Oh how we thank You for the life we have in You today because You endured the cross for us.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.
