But he (Peter) denied it (that he was with Jesus) before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.” Matthew 26:70
Lord I know this event so well and this was denial # 1 for Peter. There will be two more just as You predicted. Peter didn’t know what was going to happen to You and he could not risk having the same thing happen to him.
I can’t find fault with Peter. Who of us can be totally sure we would not do the same thing given the same circumstance.
I have no doubt in my mind that Peter loved You but he was human and he was weak. We are no different than he was. We too are human.
Lord we thank You for Your power and Your strength. Thank You for always being with us even when we disappoint You.
Thank You for Your unconditional love.
Oh how we praise You and thank You
Thank You Lord.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” Matthew 26:69
Lord now we are going to learn more about Peter. The maid knew she had seen Peter with You.
I wonder how strong any of us would be. We are going to see how Peter reacted in our next few versus.
How would we act Lord. We love You and yet would we pass the test and stand true to You. I hope and pray we never have to find out.
We love You Lord Thank You for Your compassion. Thank You for Your unconditional love.
Thank You Lord.

Then they (scribes and elders) spat in His (Jesus) face, and struck Him and some slapped Him, saying, “Prophesy to us, You Christ! Who is it that struck you?” Matthew 26:67, 68
Lord, You were innocent. They were not being nice to You. They wanted Your power. They were trying to destroy You.
Thank You Lord for enduring all of this to the end for our salvation.
Oh how we praise You for all we have because of You!
Thank You!
Thank You Lord.

Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, “He (Jesus) has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard His blasphemy. What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves death.” Matthew 26:65, 66
Lord …. You were innocent but all there said You were guilty. False accusations. They all stuck together and said …guilty.
The only thing You were guilty of Lord was exposing their pride and arrogance. They didn’t like what You were saying about them because You were exposing them for who they truly were.
Thank You Lord for Your unconditional love for us that love and serve You.
Thank You for enduring the cross.
We love You Lord and thank you for the gift of eternal life.
Thank You Lord.

Jesus said to him, (Caiaphas) “You have said so, but I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the cloud of heaven.” Matthew 26:66
Lord it was amazing that You had to answer at all. They wanted to kill You. They didn’t want to hear anything You had to say. You were their threat and they were going to destroy You no matter what they had to do to accomplish it.
You went through all of this for me Lord and I thank You.
I’m so glad that prophesy was fulfilled and You are in heaven waiting for us to join You.
Oh how I thank You.
Thank You Lord.

And the high priest stood up and said, (to Jesus) “Have You no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against You!” But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to Him, “I adjure You by the living God, tell me if You are the Christ, the Son of God.” Matthew 26:62 – 65
Lord …. You were silent. What was there to say since they had already sent liars to say what You had done. You remained quiet rather than have them rip You apart even further.
Oh how we can learn from You Lord. Often it is better to just remain silent…. We know we are innocent so why say any more.
Thank You for the loving example You give us. Oh to be like You Lord. Our goal…. Our desire. Thank You for showing us a better way.
Thank You. Thank You Lord.

Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put Him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward, and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.’ “ Matthew 26:59 – 61
Lord, how sad when there are false accusations. You know exactly how we feel when others speak falsely of us or when others are jealous and try to ‘do us in’.
Thank You Lord for going through what we go through and helping us keep our eyes on You.
We have it all Lord because we have You.
Thank You for Your many gifts and blessings.
Thank You Lord.

But Peter followed Him (Jesus) at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. Matthew 26:58
Lord how hard this must have been for both You and Peter. You were taken away as a criminal and Peter was following behind to see what was going to take place.
Lord verse by verse we can see all You went through for our salvation.
Oh how we thank You. Thank You for paying the price for my sin.
Thank You Lord.

Then those who had seized Jesus led Him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. Matthew 26:57
Lord You were a prisoner. You were taken away not because of what You had done but because of who You were.
Thank You Lord for allowing all of this to happen for our redemption. You came to give us life…. You came …. You died …. You rose again…. You gave each of us that accept You the gift of eternal life.
Thank You.
Thank You Lord.

At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture Me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me. But all this has taken place, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled. Matthew 26:55, 56
Alone – Lord You were alone – all Your disciples forsook You. Alone….
Thank You Lord for knowing what we feel like when we are left alone…..alone ….. Alone is a very lonely place to be and a very hard feeling to endure.
Oh how I thank You for friends and family.
Oh how I thank You that I know You are always with me.
I am oh so blessed Lord and I know it and thank You.
Thank You Lord! Thank You.
