Thought For Today

But when He (Jesus) was accused by the chief priests and elders, He made no answer. Matthew 27:12

Lord what more was there for You to say. They were going to keep hammering at You with things that were not true. There was nothing more that You could say and You knew that.

Thank You Lord for understanding how we feel when we are falsely accused.

Thank You for giving us Your words of wisdom that we so often need.

We are not alone Lord and we thank You.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

Now Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him, “are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “You have said so.” Matthew 27:11

Lord, no matter what You would have said they would have condemned You. There are often times in our lives too when it is better to say nothing. You knew what was going to happen and You knew exactly what to say.

Thank You Lord for Your wisdom and knowledge.

Thank You for helping us when we cry out to You.

Thank You for always being there for us.

Oh how we need You! Oh how we love You.

Thank You.

Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed.” Matthew 27:9, 10

Thank You Lord for fulfilling all the scriptures.

Thank You for coming to earth to bring us eternal life.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.

Oh what a gift!

But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since they are blood money.” So they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in. Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Matthew 27:6 – 8

Lord it often amazes me how things like this happen.

30 pieces of silver – they were what Judas was paid to betray You – and now they are used for something great. A potter’s field for those that didn’t have a place to be buried.

This action reminds me again of the verse Romans 8:28 – ‘And God CAUSES all thing to work together for good for them that love You and are called according to Your purpose.’

Oh how wonderful it is to see Your work in action.

We thank You Lord for Your many gifts. They are awesome and all we need to do is open our eyes to see them all around us.

Thank You for each gift.

And (Judas) throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed; and he went and hanged himself. Matthew 27:5

Lord, what a sad day. You were condemned. Judas realized what he had done. He couldn’t take living with his mistake and hanged himself.

This event leaves me speechless and pondering…… Lord what are we to learn from this.

First I see a man that was sorry for what he had done. He tried to give the money back and the chief priest wouldn’t take it.

What else could he do. You were already a captive of Your enemies because he had set it up. He must have felt trapped and thought that was the only way out.

Today we still have to pay for our mistakes and shortcomings BUT You forgive. You are always there to help us keep living our lives. You are our comfort. You are our rock.

Oh how we thank You that we are never alone.

When Judas, His (Jesus) betrayer, saw that He was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, “I have sinned in betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” Matthew 27:3, 4

Lord, Judas was sorry for what he had done when he saw the results of his action.

Who of us reading this hasn’t felt that way at one time or another. Oh, it didn’t result in what resulted in Your life Lord, but none the less we were sorry for our words or actions.

Forgiveness is a wonderful gift. Most of the time it can’t make things right and we still suffer the consequences of our actions but we appreciate someone saying they ‘forgive’ us.

You forgive us Lord. You give us unconditional love.

You came and You died to free us and give us eternal life. Oh how we appreciate Your ‘forgiveness’ of all our shortcomings. We are free! We are forgiven!

Thank You! My heart is full of gratitude.

When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put Him to death; and they bound Him and led him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor. Matthew 27:1, 2

Lord You were innocent.

You came to earth to die for us.

You love us and we thank and praise You. Thank You for giving us eternal life.

We are Your children and we love You.

After a little while the by-standers came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you. Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, I do not know the man.” And immediately the cock crowed. Matthew 26:73, 74

Lord this was the third time Peter had denied that he knew You and just as he finished denying You the cock crowed. You had said earlier that when the cock crowed Peter would have denied You three times.. It happened just as You predicted.

Thank You Lord for knowing all about us and loving us unconditionally.

Thank You for taking our weaknesses and making us strong.

You are our comfort and our guide.

Oh how we need You …. Oh how we love You

Thank You for never forsaking us.

And when he (Peter) went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and said to the by-standers, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” And again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.” Matthew 26:71, 72

Lord this was Peter’s second denial that he knew You. There is one more to come in the next verses.

We can find fault with Peter because he wasn’t willing to stand up and admit he knew You. And yet….he could have run totally away…..where were the others? We aren’t told. Peter was curious and stayed to see what would happen to the Person he had been with and loved. And yet he did fear for his own life.

Lord so often I see how human Your disciples were. They wanted to be strong and stand firm but they buckled under the pressures.

We too crumble Lord without You arms of love around us. Oh how we thank You that You are always with us.
