And all the people answered, (Pilate) “His (Jesus) blood be on us and on our children.” Matthew 27:25

Lord, these people didn’t want any part of You. They wanted You killed and they were fighting to the very end to have that accomplished. How sad since You were innocent. The scribes and chief priests had convinced the crowd that You were guilty and now they were all shouting for You to be crucified. How sad!

Thank You Lord for Your unconditional love. The thief on the cross with You was forgiven just as we are forgiven when we fall short of all You want us to be.

Your forgiveness has no limits and we praise and thank You.

Thank You Lord.

So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this Man’s (Jesus) blood; see to it yourselves.” Matthew 27:24

Lord, Pilate was a good man. He couldn’t do what the crowd wanted him to do with a clear conscience. He washed his hands and stepped away. What guts that took Lord. Amazing man really.

Thank You for those that are strong like Pilate today that stand up for You.

Thank You for giving each one of us that same strength and power You gave Pilate.

Oh how we thank You. Oh how we need You. You are ALWAYS there when we call and we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

And he (Pilate) said, “Why, what evil has He (Jesus) done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let Him be crucified.” Matthew 27:23

Lord, thank You for men like Pilate that want to do the right thing. He was trying to persuade the crowd to look at and listen to their actions. But they shouted all the more. They would not change their minds. They would not listen to reason.

Lord it is so easy to follow the crowd and do what they are doing. That is often the easier way. But we thank You for Your wisdom and knowledge and help in overcoming the wrong pathway. Thank You for helping us follow Your leading and Your direction.

Oh how we need Your strong pull within us Lord and we thank You for it.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let Him be crucified.” Matthew 27:22

Sad Lord that those that had followed You and seen Your miracles would turn against You. Pilate was doing all he could to change the minds of those that were against You but no one would listen to his plea.

You came to die for us Lord and we thank You. It is because You died that today we live. Oh how we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” Matthew 27:21

Lord what are we to learn from this sad event? It just goes to show us how easily we are persuaded to go against what we believe in. Many of those that shouted that day “Barabbas” had been following You and watching You. And yet….they turned from what they believed in and were the ones that were shouting for Barabbas to be released.

Lord it is only You that can keep us from falling short of all You have made us to be.

How we need Your power and strength in our lives. Thank You for ALWAYS being there for us.

Thank You Lord.

Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the people to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. Matthew 27:20

Lord we wonder how those that were following You and loving You could be convinced by these elders and chief priests. Peer pressure! And we have it today…..peer pressure. We try to teach our children not to give in to it but often we don’t do much better ourselves. Our world seems to fall into this trap so often today. We want to be all things to all people instead of doing the ‘right’ thing.

Thank You Lord for giving us the backbones to stand up against peer pressure.

Thank You for giving us the wisdom to know the difference.

Thank You for giving us the strength to stand up and be counted as Your follower.

We need You Lord and we know You are always there to help us. Thank You.

Thank You Lord.

Besides while he (Pilot) was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much over Him today in a dream.” Matthew 27:19

Lord how scary that must have been for Pilot to receive that warning from his wife.

Pilot had just tried to skirt the issue knowing that You were innocent by asking the people who they wanted to release.

Jealousy is a horrible vice that destroys from within. The scribes and chief priests wanted to destroy You because they were losing their popularity. The masses were turning to You Lord.

Thank You for remaining true to Your calling Lord. It was because of Your death that we have eternal life. Oh how we thank and praise You.

Thank You Lord.

So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you, Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Christ?” For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered Him up. Matthew 27:17, 18

Lord what a difficult spot Pilot was in. He knew You were being set up because the leaders envied You. At least he had an out because he could offer them a choice. This took it out of his hands and into the hands of the others that were trying to kill You.

Today life is often hard for us to understand when the innocent are found guilty. You know how that feels. You understand and are always there to bring comfort.

Thank You for never leaving us Lord. We KNOW You are always with us.

Thank You Lord.

Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted. And they had then a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas. Matthew 27:15, 16

Lord this is the Easter story and we all know it so very, very well. It is so hard to understand why the people would want Barabbas released. He was a horrible man. You were an innocent man. And yet the crowd wanted You to go to Your death instead of Barabbas.

Lord we are often misunderstood and I thank You that You never misunderstand us. You know our motives. You know our desires. You love us unconditionally.

Thank You for Your love ….Your unconditional love. Oh how we need it each day.

Thank You Lord.

Then Pilate said to Him, (Jesus) “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You? But He gave him no answer, not even to a single charge; so that the governor wondered greatly. Matthew 27:13, 14

What could You say Lord. They had already condemned You. They knew what they were going to do to You before a word was spoken. They were going to destroy You first with their words and then with their actions. You were alone during all these accusations.

Lord thank You for being with us in our ‘alone’ moments of life.

You see our hearts and You understand our thoughts. Oh how blessed we are.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.
