Thought For Today

And he (man wanting eternal life) said to Him, (Jesus) “Teacher, all these (commandments) I have observed from my youth.” And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing; go sell what you will have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Mark 10:20

Lord You always know the one thing we have a hard time letting go of that keeps us from being all we can be for You. This man was very wealthy and didn’t want to give up what he had to follow You. What stands out to me was the fact that You loved Him. I think because You knew what his true desires were You loved him. He wasn’t an evil man …..he was someone that wanted eternal life and came to You to find out how he could have it. Was the price too high for him? Were You asking too much?

Thank You for loving us unconditionally. You see our hearts. You see our love for You. You love us.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued talking with the man wanting to know about eternal life) “You know the commandments: ‘Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” Mark 10:19

Lord there were so many rules when You were here on earth. The Pharisees certainly would have no problem finding You breaking one of the rules. Many of them were ridiculous. The original rules were expanded upon to suit the ones that wanted to be in control.

Thank You Lord for coming to pay the price for our sin.

Thank You for allowing us to become Your children.

Thank You for Your unconditional love. Oh how we need it Lord. Thank You.

(And as He (Jesus) was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”) And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.” Mark 10:18

Lord this seems a strange way to answer this question. You obviously saw his motives and desires. There was more to his question than we can see on the surface. You love us and want us to have eternal life that is why You came.

Thank You for loving us and dying for us. Thank You for Your unconditional love. We have been given the gift of life …eternal life.

And as He (Jesus) was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Mark 10:17

Lord it seems You were always moving about. You were walking so You were available for people to approach You. As You went from town to town the people would approach You with their questions and needs. Now we see a man kneeling before You asking You how to have eternal life.

It’s wonderful for us that we can read the before and the after in Your life. This is December and we begin to think about Your birth and the miracles that took place surrounding it. There is excitement in the air especially for the children BUT it does cause all people to know the celebration is truly about Your birth.

Oh how we thank You that You came to earth to bring us the gift of eternal life with You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And He took them in His arms and blessed them, laying His hands upon them. Mark 10:15, 16

Lord what a beautiful event. We see many pictures today of what artists think that scene was like. They put a smile on our faces because we know the joy there must have been that day.

I was a child when I accept You into my life so I had that simple faith of a child that You talk about here. At the young age of 8 I knew I needed You in my life. Yes I was that child that entered into Your kingdom that evening.

I have much to rejoice in and much to thank You for Lord. You continue to love me unconditionally and I thank You.

And they were bringing children to Him, (Jesus) that He might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it He was indignant, and said to them, “Let the children come to Me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Mark 10:13, 14

Lord, I now understand the delight watching little children can bring. Even as very small children one can see their little personalities come forth. Like snowflakes each child is different. Each is beautiful in a different sort of way. Each is a gift to be treasured.

Thank You for the gift of life. Thank You for the joy children bring in our lives.

You loved them Lord and we love them too.

And in the house the disciples asked Him (Jesus) again about this matter. And He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” Mark 10:10 – 12

Lord all I can say when reading these verses and knowing that half of Your followers today are divorced is how thankful I am that You forgive.

Thank You for loving us unconditionally and picking up the pieces of our lives to make something beautiful.

We love You Lord and look to You for answers and forgiveness. Oh how we thank You that You are there. You never leave us. You are there to comfort and cheer. Thank You.

(Jesus continued talking with the Pharisees.) “For this reason (God made male and female.) a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one. So they are no longer two but one. What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Mark 10:7 – 9

Lord this is the scripture we hear at weddings.

Thank You for giving us the desire to be more and more like You. What a gift it is to be able to come to You and ask that our marriage be all that You want it to be.

Thank You for Your unconditional love that calls us on to be more and morel like You. Oh how we need You.

(Jesus continued talking with the Pharisees) “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’” Mark 10:6

Lord as You continue to talk with the Pharisees You continued to dodge their evil entrapments.

Thank You for the creation of male and female and the beautiful relationships that evolves.

Thank You for allowing us to bring You into each relationship.

Thank You for Your wisdom and Your help.

There is much to thank You for Lord and we do thank and praise You.

They (Pharisees) said, (to Jesus) “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to put her away.” Mark 10:4

Lord we are continuing to hear You with the Pharisees and their plot to discredit You. What they were asking had nothing to do with what the subject was. All they were trying to do was to discredit anything You would answer. They didn’t want You to have the following You had and this was their way of making the rest of the people question if You were who they thought You were not who You said You were.

You came Lord for us Lord. You are our Lord and Savior. Thank You for Your unconditional love. We are blessed.
