Thought For Today

(The blind beggar) And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus. Mark 10:50

Lord what must have it been like to have been this man that was blind and he could hear You call him. This man knew that if he could but get Your attention he would be healed. He believed in You. He believed You could change his life with this healing.

Lord – how wonderful it is that You change our lives too. Oh how we thank You!

And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” (Blind Beggar) Mark 10:49

Lord how blessed we are that You have called us too. We were blind to all that You had to give us until someone shared Your message with us. You call us all to ‘come follow You.’ It doesn’t matter who we are or what we have done Your invitation is to us all.

Thanks You for giving us ALL Your invitation to ‘come follow You.’

And they came to Jerico; and as He (Jesus) was leaving Jerico with His disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Mark 10:46, 47

Lord what a wonderful opportunity for this blind beggar. Everyone knew who Jesus was and the power He had. How exciting it must have been for this blind man.

Thank You Lord for Your healing touch.

Thank You for faith that believes. This man was crying out because he knew You could change His life.

Thank You for Your comfort in the midst of the storms of life. Oh how we need You Lord and thank You for ALWAYS being with us.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “For the Son of man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Thank You Lord for the gift of eternal life with You.

Thank You for giving Your all for us.

Thank You for teaching us how to love and serve with a heart full of gratitude.

We have it all Lord because we have You.

(Jesus continued) “But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant; and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.” Mark 10:43

Servants and slaves Lord, not something we all would desire to be but that is what You are calling us to be. That is our calling. That is something we cannot do in our own power and strength. We thank You that You not only call us but You equip us with the wisdom and knowledge to carry out Your desires. Oh how we thank You. Oh how we need You.

And Jesus called them (His disciples) to Him and said to them, “You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. Mark 10:42

Lord how true it is even today that often rulers lord it over those they serve. Life becomes very difficult and often You have been snuffed out of countries and those that would want to serve You were killed. Here you were trying to teach Your disciples that one should not want to be considered better than the other or have a higher place of honor. We are all Your children. We are all equal in Your sight. You love each of us unconditionally and oh how we all need that and thank You for it.

We love You Lord and as we begin a new year loving and serving You and others we continue to thank You. Thank You for loving us and teaching us how to love others. Oh how we praise and thank You.

(And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to Him, (Jesus) and said to Him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of You.” And He (Jesus) said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” And they said to Him, “Grant us to sit, one at Your right hand and one at Your left, in Your glory.”) But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” And they said to Him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant but it is for those for whom it has been prepared. And when the ten (disciples) heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. Mark 10:38 – 42

Lord this scripture sure shows the human side of Your chosen twelve disciples. They all wanted to be near You. They all wanted a special place next to You. They loved You and wanted to be near You. James and John were no different than we would have been.

Lord You saw their hearts. You knew their desires. After all You chose them and asked them to ‘come follow You.”

We too are blessed because You have called us to come follow You. I’m so glad I said yes to Your call. It is a wonderful gift to be called Your child and I praise and thank You.

Lord how can we fault these two brothers that wanted to sit next to You. Who of us wouldn’t want the same privilege and honor. I thank You for the privilege we have of taking time away from the hustle and bustle of life to read Your scriptures and listen to Your still small voice within. We are never alone Lord – You are always with us. Thank You!

Lord it is interesting that You merely asked them what they wanted.

Lord here were two brother’s brazen enough to ask You to do anything they wanted You to do. Initially I thought – ‘who in the world do they think they are.’ And yet Lord when I reflect on what I am saying I know that I have no room to talk. After all haven’t I often ask for personal things too.

Thank You for Your unconditional love Lord. A love that understands our humanness and loves us in spite of our shortcomings. We love You Lord. Thank You for Your many blessings.
