Thought For Today

There are friends who pretend to be friends but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24

Lord Solomon was speaking about You and Your love for us. You are that friend that sticks closer than a brother.

I have been blessed with three wonderful brothers. They are there for me. I know they love me so when Solomon says You stick closer than a brother it resonates in my heart. Thank You Lord. I love You and am truly blessed.

The poor use entreaties but the rich answer roughly. Proverbs 18:23

Lord I think what Solomon wants his son to realize here is that there is value in the poor just as there is the rich.

Seems Lord that today in this lifetime we place great value on those that You have been blessed with riches. Many often look away from those that are poor.

I am one of those Lord that have had a valuable lesson in learning what it was like to be raised in a poor family. I got to see and learn about life from the other side of the tracks so to speak. What a gift and what a blessing that has been to me in my adult life as I have learned to value all people. My life from baby up was amerced in love. That is the greatest gift of all. Money cannot buy love.

What a gift I was given Lord but it took me a long time to see and appreciate it. Oh how I thank You today for opening my eyes to see the wonderful gift You had given me. Thank You.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. Proverbs 18:22

Lord we must remember that Solomon was telling his son to find a wife was a good thing and finding her obtains favor with You.

Thank You Lord for helping us women feel so special.

Thank You for the gifts You have given us that are needed in a relationship with a man.

Thank You for teaching us how to be even better wives as we walk and talk with You Lord.

Oh how blessed we are and we thank You.

Oh how true this is Lord. Thank You for giving us the ability to think before we speak.

Thank You for helping us speak words of kindness and joy.

Oh how wonderful it is to let You guide us and help with the words we speak. Your gift to us and I thank You.

A brother helped is like a strong city but quarreling is like the bars of a castle. Proverbs 18:19

Lord I love the wisdom of Solomon and the things he is teaching his son. How true it is that helping someone – especially those that don’t know you are helping them – brings such joy. Quarreling on the other hand makes me feel horrible.

Thank You Lord for those that are on my pathway that You call me to help. What a joy. What a blessing. Thank You for each one of them Lord.

The lot puts an end to disputes and decides between powerful contenders. Proverbs 18:18

Lord today we would say ‘let’s flip a coin.’ Solomon continues to instruct his son on the things he wants him to know about life. Here he is showing him that when you cast lots it doesn’t matter how much you have or how much you know the dice would write the history.

Thank You Lord that our destiny is not decided by the throw of the dice.

Thank You that when we know You we can have the assurance of our destiny.

We are blessed Lord and we thank You.

He who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him. Proverbs 18:17

Lord once again Solomon is teaching his son about discernment. Many can be so convincing until they are questioned and the story begins to fall apart.

Thank You Lord for wisdom…..wisdom to know and discern the truth.

Thank You for Your insight…… Oh how we need it and thank You for it.

The intelligent mind acquires knowledge and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Proverbs 18:15

Thank You Lord for the desire to learn. I have been blessed with an insatiable quest to gain knowledge. There doesn’t seem to be enough time in a day for me to squeeze in all that I want to read or hear.

I love listening to what You have to say to me through the verse or verses each day. I see things so often in a different light when I listen to Your thoughts.

A foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him. Proverbs 17:25

Lord we must remember that Solomon was speaking to his son. Here he is reminding his son that it would bring grief to him and bitterness to his mother if he was foolish.

Thank You for this warning to children today…..and we are all children.

We all can listen to these words of wisdom and take heed.

Thank You Solomon for this reminder.

Thank You Lord for helping each one of us make wise choices. We need Your guidance Lord and thank You for it.
