Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear Him. (Jesus)  Luke 15:1

Lord You came to heal and who better needed healing than these collectors and sinners that had come to listen to You.

Thank You Lord for still drawing collectors and sinners today.

Thank You for dying that we might live.

Thank You for taken our sins upon You so that we could be cleansed.

Thank You for showing us how to live in this world.

Thank You for changing us from the inside out.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?  It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill; men throw it away.  He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”  Luke 14:34, 35

Lord, salt was very important in the lives of those You were talking to.  It was something that was necessary that they have.

You  told us Lord that You are the salt of the earth. You wanted these people to listen to what You were saying.  You wanted them to know that they needed to take action on what they were hearing.

Thank You Lord for giving us the opportunity today to follow You.

Thank You for calling us all to listen to what You are saying.

Thank You for the joy in knowing more and more about You.

Thank You for the peace You give as we walk with You.

We are blessed to be Your children Lord and I thank You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who come against him with twenty thousand?  And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace.  So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.”   Luke 14:31 – 33

Lord You are still asking that questions today.  It wasn’t any easier in that day than it is today.  Who will we put first in our lives?  Who will we allow to have control?

Thank You Lord for asking us to come follow You.

Thank You that You call us and wait patiently for our answer.

Thank You for Your power in our lives that enables us to put You first.

Thank You for picking us up and putting us on Your pathway when we stumble and fall.

Thank You Lord.

And Jesus spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath or not.”  Luke 14:3

Lord, everyone was watching the man with dropsy as he came to You for healing.

It was the sabbath.

Now You posed the question.

What would they answer?

Thanks You Lord that You know our hearts and You know our motives.

Thank You that nothing is hidden from You.

Thank You for knowing what is best for us.

Thank You for guiding and directing us.

These are tremendous gifts Lord and I thank You.

Thank You Lord.

And behold there was a man before Him (Jesus) who had dropsy.  Luke 14:2

Lord all eyes are upon you?

What will You do?

Everyone was watching to see what was going to happen this time.

Thank You Lord for Your healing touch.

Thank You for the changes you make within us as we let You.

Thank You for always being there to hear our cries and cleanse our wounds.

Thank You for loving us unconditionally.

Thank you Lord.

One sabbath when He (Jesus) went to dine at the house of a ruler who belonged to the Pharisees, they were watching Him.  Luke 14:1

Lord You were always being watched and judged.

Even though all eyes were upon every move You made that did not keep You from Your mission.

There was never anything that you did that wasn’t done because of Your desire to fulfill Your calling here on earth.

Thank You Lord for coming here for us.

Thank You for showing us the way.

Thank You that You continue to be that lighthouse for all of us today.

Thank You Lord that we can go in peace to love and serve You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!  How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!  See!  Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”  Luke 13:34, 35

Thanks You Lord for loving us so much.

Thanks You for watching over us and calling us to Yourself.

Thank You that You came to bring life and a more abundant life for all that trust in You.

Thank You for exposing those that would try and pull You down.

Thank You for the victory that You won.

Thanks You Lord.

And He (Jesus) said to them, “Go and tell that fox (Herod), ‘Behold I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course.  Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet shall perish away from Jerusalem .’
Luke 13:32, 33

Lord Your calling was so profound that You could even call Herod a fox.

I can hear my mother’s voice saying, ‘If you can’t say something nice don’t say it.’  I can then hear my own voice echo those same words to my son.

And yet You called Herod a fox.

A fox comes sneeking into the hen house to kill the chickens and eat them.

You saw Herod’s heart.   You knew his thoughts and desire.  He was not on Your side.

Thank You Lord for exposing those that are there to destroy.

Thank You for exposing the deceipt in our own hearts when we try and hid it from You.

Thank You for the peace that getting rid of the things that are not pleaseing to You brings us.

Thank You for the joy of forgiveness.

Thank You Lord.

11/20/08

At that very hour some Pharisees came, and said to Him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”     Luke 13:31

Lord You spoke out against what was wrong and because of it Your life was threatened.

Thank You that thus far we in the US are safe.

Thank You for our freedom to worship You.

Oh Lord how I thank You for freedom and I never want to take it for granted. It is a tremendous gift.  Many lives have been given for us to remain free.

Thank You for each person that risked their life for freedom Lord.

Thank You for giving Your life so that we could be free for not only today but all eternity.

Thank You Lord.

And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”  Luke 13:30

Lord I must confess that this verse has always been a thorn in my side.  It has always shown me that I have a long way to go in my walk with You.  This verse bothers me because it lets those that have rejected You and then turn to You at the end of their lives go to the front of the line.  That has always seemed so unfair to me.  It is certainly something that has caused me to ask forgiveness for my attitude and yet the feelings still lurk at me when I read it.  I once again must ask Your forgiveness Lord.
Yes, Lord I am so often reminded when I say ‘well that just isn’t right’ that does not always look fair.

But Lord I know You are fair and because I know that I have to accept that there is a whole lot that I don’t understand.

Thank You Lord that You continue to love me unconditionally while I am in the process of becoming more and more like you.

Thank You that at the right time You will open my eyes of understanding and help me see.

Thank You for Your patience.

Thank You Lord.
