(Jesus continued)  “And he (younger son) arose and come to his father.  But while he was yet a distance, his father saw him and had compassion and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”  Luke 15:20

Lord what a great picture this is of the love of a father for his son.  This is such a wonderful story and I always enjoy thinking about it.  It is such a great story to share with children because there is so much meaning in it.

Thank You Lord that You like this father wait patiently for our return when we go off on our own tangents.

Thank You that You too are watching over us and waiting for our return.

Thank You that as Your children You want the very best for our lives.

Thank You for caring Lord.   What a gift.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “I (younger son) will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.'”  Luke 15:18, 19

Lord how well this describes us.

It is so easy to want our own way and to run off and do our own thing and then when all falls apart we see the error of our way.

Thank You Lord that just as this son knew he could go back to his father we know that You are always there for us.

Thank You for never leaving us or forsaking us.

Thank You Lord for Your patience with us.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “But when he (younger son) came to himself he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger!’”  Luke 15:17

Lord, thank You for this story because we can relate it to You and all You have provided for us.

Thank You that we have everything that we need when we have You.

Thank You for the spiritual food that You provide for us each day.

Thank You that as we learn more and more about You we see how much we truly have.

Thank You for teaching us to trust You for all our needs.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “So he (younger son) went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine.  And he would gladly have fed on the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything.”  Luke 15:15, 16

Lord we see what a bind this young man found himself in all because he wanted to go out and experience what life was like away from his father.

Oh, we can find fault, but many of us are just like him.  We want our own way and we want life the way we want it.

Well it worked for a while for him Lord until his money was gone and now we see him tending the swine without any food to eat.  A very sad picture.

Thank You Lord that You were calling this young man to Yourself while he was out there enjoying his life by spending all his money.

Thank You that no matter where we are or what we are doing You are always watching us and calling us back.

Thank You for calling this young man back to his senses.

Thank You for always calling us back when we stray.

Oh how we all need You Lord.

Thank You for always being there when we cry out to You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “And when he (the younger son) had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want.”  Luke 15:14

Thank You Lord for causing us to want You.

Thank You for the peace that is ours when we follow You.

Thank You that we don’t have to make the mistakes that this young man made when we keep our eyes upon You and Your pathway for us.

We have serenity when we have You Lord.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living.”  Luke 15:13

Thank You Lord for Luke’s account of this story.

Here we see the young man with all his money having a wonderful time.

I can’t help but wonder how hard his father worked for the money he was throwing away.

Also what must the father have thought as this son left for the journey.

Thank You Lord that You call us back to Yourself when we stray.

Thank You for the joy in serving You and loving You.

Thank You for Your guidance and direction and saving us the walk of destruction that this young son took.

We have You Lord to guide and direct us and I thank You.

Thank You Lord.

And He (Jesus) said, “There was a man who had two sons; and the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father give me the share of property that falls to me.’  And he divided his living between them.”  Luke 15:11, 12

Lord these verses are going to unfold the story of the prodigal son.

This story is going to show us how much You love us and how unconditional that love truly is.

The stage is set with the two sons and the younger son wanting his share of his inheritance even before his father had died.

Thank You Lord for Your unconditional love for each one of us.

Thank You that there is nothing we have to do to earn it because it is already there.

We are loved.  We are forgiven.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she lost one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?  And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.’  Luke 15:8 – 10

Lord once again You were trying to show those that were listening to You just how important they were to You.

Thank You for loving us and calling us to be Yours.

Thank You showing this crowd how much they were wanted and how much You cared about each one of them.

Thank You that each one of us matters to You.

Thank You for You unconditional love.

Thank You Lord.

So He (Jesus) told them (the crowd) this parable; “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it.  And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, say to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.’  Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents then over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”  Luke 15:3 – 7

Thank You Lord for caring about all of us.

Thank you for this story which is told so often and sung about because it reminds us all how important each of us are to You.

Thank You for telling these people in that day just how important they were to You.

Thank You that You love us all and invite us all to come to You.

Thank You for calling us to come follow You.

Thank You Lord.

And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”  Luke 15:2

Lord so often when someone does something that is out of the norm others find all kinds of fault.  These pious religious Pharisees and scribes were looking down their noses at Jesus because of His behavior.

Thank You Lord for helping us rise above what other people think of us.

Thank You for giving us the strength and power within to stand alone if needs be.

Thank You that we can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that You are right there with us to bring the right words when they are needed.

Thank You for the joy of knowing You and serving You.

Our lives are changed because of Your unconditional love for us.

Thank You Lord.
