He (Jesus) said to them, (Jews) “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am He.” John 8:23, 24

Lord in my heart I wonder what would I have thought if I were in their situation? Would I have been a follower or a skeptic. I certainly understand why they were feeling as they did. I am so glad today that we know the rest of this story.

Thank You for the insights that we have been given today.

Thank You that we can know You and not only know of You but we too can know You.

Oh how blessed we are.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

Then said the Jews, “Will He (Jesus) kill Himself, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’” John 8:22

Lord it was so hard for the Jews of Your day to understand what You were talking about. They didn’t want to believe that You were their Messiah and therefore they were not able to grasp what You were trying to tell them.

Thank You Lord that You give us open ears to hear because we believe in You.

Thank You that we don’t have to speculate or wonder what You are talking about.

Thank You for the history that shows us who You are and why You came.

Oh how fortunate we are Lord to be able to read, listen, trust and obey.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

Again He (Jesus) said to them, (Jews) “I go away and you will seek Me and die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.”
John 8:21

Lord You so often spoke of going to Your Father. You also told us that we could go there too if we believe in You. You told us You were going there to prepare a place for us to live with You forever and ever.

Thank You for the insight into what lies ahead for us.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.

And Lord thank You that it is for all that reach out and accept it.

Oh how blessed we are.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

These words He (Jesus) spoke to the treasury, as He taught in the temple; but no one arrested Him, because His hour had not yet come. John 8:20

Thank You Lord that there was a plan for Your life and there is a plan for our lives.

These men didn’t like You and wanted to arrest You but they couldn’t because it wasn’t Your time yet.

Thank You for helping us see that this is the same for our lives too.

You know and You care.

Thank You for watching over us each moment of every day.

Thank You Lord.

They (Pharisees) said to Him, (Jesus) therefore, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.” John 8:19

Lord, You have told us that Your sheep hear Your voice. These men that claimed to be so good at keeping the law didn’t know You. You saw their hearts and they had no room for You.

Thank You Lord that You love us.

Thank You for showing us how much You care.

Thank You for the gift of being able to sit and listen to You when we read Your scripture.

Oh how blessed we are in this generation to have Your word.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “In your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true; I bear witness to Myself and the Father who sent Me bears witness to Me.” Luke 8:17, 18

Lord it is so hard to be misunderstood. These Pharisees didn’t want to believe You. You kept talking and it was falling on deaf ears. They really didn’t want to hear anything You said that would exonerate You.

Thank You Lord for showing us how You were treated when You were on earth.

Thank You for knowing how we feel when we are not understood.

Thank You for being there for us to come to You with our feelings of rejection.

Oh how blessed we are because of Your love for us.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “You judge according to the flesh, I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, My judgment is true, for it is not I alone that judge, but I and He who sent Me.” Luke 8:15, 16

Thank You Lord that You are always on our side.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.

Oh how blessed we are to have You as our judge.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness to Myself, My testimony is true, for I know whence I have come and whence I am going but you do not know whence I come or whether I am going.” John 8:14

Lord it is so difficult to know the truth and not have anyone believe you. These Pharisees were not going to believe You no matter how convincing everyone else thought You were. It is so hard to be misunderstood and know you are right.

Thank You Lord for seeing our heart.

Thank You that You know us and who we are and what we are all about.

Thank You for knowing our thoughts.

Thank You for understanding us.

Thank You for always being there for us.

Thank You Lord.

The Pharisees then said to Him, (Jesus) “You are bearing witness to Yourself; Your testimony is not true.” John 8:13

Lord, You knew what it was like to have people not understand You. You knew what it was like to have people hate You. You knew what it was like to have people call You a liar.

Thanks You Lord for helping us keep our thoughts and eyes upon You when we are not understood.

Thank You for showing us that You care even if there was no one else in the world that cared.

Thank You for believing in us when others don’t.

Oh how blessed we are to have You in our lives Lord.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

Later, in one of His talks, Jesus said to the people, “I am the light of the world. So if you follow Me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path.” John 8:12

Oh Lord, how we thank You for the living light that floods our path.

Thank You for always being there to show us the way.

Thank You for the confidence we have in knowing how much You love us.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.
