Thought For Today

The Jews then said to Him, (Jesus) “You are not yet 50 years old and have you seen Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple. John 8:57 – 59

Lord it is hard to understand these Jews. They had everything and yet everything wasn’t enough.

These men wanted You out of their lives. They started throwing stone at You but You got out of their way.

Thank You Lord for giving us the privilege of being your child.

Thank You for showing us the truth.

Oh how blessed we are.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “But you (the Jews) have not known Him; (God) I know Him. If I said, I do not know Him, I should be a liar like you; but I do know Him and I keep His word. Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see My day; he saw it and was glad.” John 8:55, 56

Thank You Lord that we have Your scripture to read and learn all about You.

Thank You that we too can rejoice like Abraham because of all that has been revealed to us.

Thank You for showing us the truth about You.

Oh how bless we are Lord because of You.

Jesus answered, (the Jews) “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say that He is Your God.” John 8:54

Lord what an interesting verse this one is. Volumes could be written about it. We can all ask ourselves the question – who do we want to get the glory for our lives and the things we are doing. Do we want the praise or do we want to be transparent and let You have the praise.

Thank You Lord for showing us all a better way to live.

Thank You for the joy in serving You.

Thank You for being our example.

Thank You Lord.

The Jews said to Him, (Jesus) “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and You say, ‘If any one keeps My word, he will never taste death.’ Are You greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do You claim to be?” John 8:52, 53

Lord the men were not going to believe You no matter how many people You healed or how much hope You tried to give them. They didn’t like You and were not at all willing to hear or understand anything You were saying.

Thank You Lord for showing us that You experienced the same things we do when You were here on earth.

Thank You for understand us when we cry out to You for help.

Thank You for always hearing us and giving us hope.

Jesus answered, (the Jews) “I have not a demon; but I honor My Father and you dishonor Me. Yet I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks it and He will be the judge. Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone keeps My word, he will never see death.” John 8:49 – 51

Lord these men did not want to hear what You were telling them. Their minds had been made up that You should be killed. You were getting far too many people to follow You. They could not allow that. You were stealing people away from them.

Thank You Lord for eternal life.

Thank You that we understand today what You were talking about.

Oh how thankful we are to know how much You love us.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

The Jews answered Him, (Jesus) “Are we not right in saying you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” John 8:48

Lord, it is so hard when people falsely accuse us. And that is exactly what these men were doing. The Jews despised the Samaritans. They were saying awful things to You Lord. They wanted You out of their lives.

Thank You Lord for those of us that believe.

Thank You for coming to earth for my sin.

Thank You for the joy in knowing You.

But, because I tell you the truth you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? If I tell the truth why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God. John 8:45 – 47

Lord, thank You for giving us the gift of being able to hear You speak.

Oh how blessed we are to have ears to hear and eyes to see.

Thank You for these gifts.

(Jesus continued) “Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and has nothing to do with the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:43, 44

Lord when I read these verses it makes me so grateful that I have You to follow and You to listen to.

Thank You for Your life here on earth.

Thank You for Your example.

Thank You for Your patience and unconditional love.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “You do what your father (Abraham) did.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I came not of My own accord but He sent Me.” John 8:41, 42

Lord what a joyful celebration we have had because You rose from the tomb.

We have walking with You from Good Friday to the grave and now we have experienced the joy of Your resurrection.

Thank You for paying the price for our sin.

Thank You for the joy of knowing You are alive as we rejoiced in all You have done and are doing in our lives.

Thank You Lord that You are never done with us but keep calling us to draw closer and closer to You.

They (Jews) answered Him, (Jesus) “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do what Abraham did, but now you seek to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God; this is not what Abraham did.”
John 8:39, 40

Lord, we are walking through Your death and resurrection this weekend. Thank You for coming to earth for us.

Thank You for dying for my sin.

Thank You for rising again.

Thank You for giving me eternal life.

Thank You Lord.
