Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of the world. But if any one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” John 11:9 – 10

Thank You Lord that Your light shines for all to see.

Thank You for giving us the option of following Your light.

Thank You for the peace and joy that are ours when we trust You.

We have it all Lord because of You.

Thank You Lord.

The disciples said to Him, (Jesus) “Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone You, and are You going there again?” John 11:8

Lord once again we see that You are doing exactly the opposite of what even Your disciples would have done or wanted You to do. You were returning to the place where they were going to stone You. And what about Your friend Lazarus that was ill. Lord this just reminds us again of how much we don’t understand about life.

Thank You Lord that You help us through each moment of every day even when we don’t understand.

Thank You for always being with us to guide.

Oh how blessed we are to be called Your children.

Thank You! Thank You Lord.

Then after this (staying two days longer where he was) He (Jesus) said to the disciples, “Let us go into Judea again.” John 11:7

Lord this verse is even more interesting than the verse we looked at yesterday. In yesterday’s verse You were staying two days longer where You were. Now You have decided to go back to where You escaped the stoning. You still are not going to the town where Your friend Lazarus is sick.

Thank You Lord for being there for us when nothing makes sense.

Thank You that we can read about Your life and accept Your words that tell us that “all things work together for good because we love You and are following You.”

Thank You for always being there when we cry out to You.

Thank You Lord.

So when He (Jesus) heard that he (Lazarus) was ill, He stayed two days longer in the place where He was. John 11:6

Lord so often I have wondered why things happened the way they happen. Here is another example. You seemed so unconcerned about Your friend Lazarus. He was sick and yet You waited two days to go and see him. You had told those that told You about him that he was not sick unto death. And yet as the story unfolds we find that wasn’t true. By the time You got there he was dead. And yet …..this story has a wonderful ending.

Thank You Lord that we don’t have to understand Your ways ……we only have to trust.

Thank You for helping us follow Your pathway and Your directions.

Thank You that we are never alone….You are always with us.

Thank You Lord.

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister (Mary) and Lazarus.
John 11:5

Thank You Lord for Your love for each one of us.

Thank You that we could put our names in the place of the names here and the verse would still be true.

Thank You for loving us enough to die for us.

Thank You for the gift of eternal life that is given freely to all that believe.

Thank You Lord.

But when Jesus heard it (Lazarus was sick) He said, “This illness is not unto death; it is for the glory of God; so that the Son of God may be glorified by means of it.” John 11:4

Lord we so often don’t understand life. I am sure Mary didn’t understand You and why You didn’t rush to her home to heal Lazarus. After all You had healed so many that You didn’t even know. Now here was Your friend and You can only say ‘this illness is not unto death.’ In other words there was no need to rush there.

What I do see though Lord was the faith that Mary had in asking You to come to heal Lazarus.

Thank You for her faith and trust in You.

Thank You for her example to all of us.

She believed! She knew who You were. She loved You.

We too can follow in her footsteps. We too love You.

Thank You Lord.

So the sisters (Mary and Martha) went to Him, (Jesus) saying, “Lord, he whom You love is ill.” John 11:3

Lord…thank You for the lives of Mary and Martha.

Thank You that they believed in You and knew You could heal

Thank You for their confidence in asking You to come heal their brother.

Faith…Trust….Wisdom.

THANK You! Thank You Lord.

It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. John 11:2

The custom of the day was to wash dusty, dirty feet when someone came into your home. Mary loved You so much Lord that she washed Your feet with expensive perfume and then dried Your feet with her hair. This made quite a statement and showed how much she loved You.

Thank You Lord that we too can show our love to You today.

Thank You for giving us the Bible where we can learn about You.

Thank You for prayer and the fact that You always hear us.

Oh Lord how can we ever thank You enough.

Thank You Lord.

Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. John 11:1

Lord this is going to be an interesting journey with You as this story unfolds verse by verse. There is so much in it for us to see and learn. Thank You for John and his ability to write for all of us to read and learn more about You.

Thank You for families Lord. You could have designed life any way You wanted and You chose to give us families. Thank You.

Thank You for my wonderful family. It is the family You chose for me. Two sisters, three brothers, a mother and a father and we were all surrounded with our parents love and Your love. What a gift! I am so blessed. Thank You.

Thank You Lord.

And many came to Him; (Jesus) and they said, “John did no sign but everything that John said about this Man was true.” And many believed in Him there. John 10:41, 42

Lord perhaps there is a lesson for us to learn here. First You were on the other side of the Jordan and the men there were going to stone You. You left there and went across to the other side and there were those that listened to You and believed. The scripture here says ‘many believed.’ Not just one or two but many.

Lord thank You that You are willing to guide and direct us if we will only ask.

Thank You that nothing we ask for is too small or too insignificant.

Oh what a gift is ours to be Your children.

Thank You Lord.
