Thought For Today

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” (To the tomb of Lazarus) Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to Him, “Lord by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” John 11:39

Lord it is so interesting Martha’s response. She wanted You to know that Lazarus would have an odor because he was dead so long.

Lord how often we questions what You are asking of us. Martha was no different than we so often are today.

Thank You Lord that You are patient with us.

Thank You for loving us unconditionally because we sure stumble and fall often Lord.

Thank You for always picking us up when we cry out to You.

Oh how blessed we are Lord.

Thank You! Thank You Lord.

Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb, (of Lazarus) it was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. John 11:38

Lord, we read where You wept and now once again we see you are ‘deeply moved’ over the death of Your friend Lazarus. Death can be a very hard thing for all of us to go through. You wept and we weep too.

Thank You Lord that we can go to You for comfort and understanding.

Thank You for being our rock.

Oh how we need You through the storms of life.

Thank You for always being there for us.

Thank YOU! Thank You Lord.

(Jesus wept.) So the Jews said, “See how He loved him.” (Lazarus) But some of them said, “Could not He who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying.” Luke 11:36, 37

Thank You Lord for showing us Your love while You were on earth.

Thank You for those Jewish men that were watching that believed in You.

Thank You for those that were not quite sure because eventually they would have answers and believe.

Thank You for showing us who You are and why You came.

Thank You for being our Lord and our God.

Jesus wept. John 11:35

Lord I think every child that was ever in a contest to see who could learn the most Bible verses recited this verse first. It is the shortest verse in the Bible and we all knew that. But Lord ….as I read it and think about it as an adult it has much more meaning. You were there with Mary and Martha the sisters of Lazarus. They were weeping along with those that were there because their brother Lazarus had died. They had called for You when he was sick but You didn’t hurry there like they would have expected You to do. They knew You loved Lazarus too. Why then did You tarry until he had died.

You wept. You had compassion for these two sisters that You loved. Perhaps You even wished You had come there sooner so they didn’t have to go through all this weeping and feeling horrible. Why were You so slow in arriving?

Lord so often we wonder too why You tarry so long in answering us. You remind us Lord that ALL things work together for good when we continue to trust You. But Lord it is so hard.

Thank You for giving us the strength we need when we need it. Oh how blessed we are because of Your unconditional love for us Lord. Thank You for ALWAYS being with us. What a gift!

When Jesus saw her (Mary) weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled; and He said, “Where have you laid him (Lazarus)? They said to Him, “Lord come and see.” John 11:33, 34

Thank You Lord for caring.

Thank You for compassion.

Thank You for family and friends that care about us.

Thank You that You are always there when we need You and cry out for help.

You see us and You care.

Thank You Lord.

Then Mary, when she came where Jesus was and saw Him, fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” Luke 11:32

Thank you Lord for Mary’s faith in You.

Thank You that she believe that with You there her brother would have lived.

She knew….she believed….she fell at Your feet.

What an example she was to all of us Lord.

Thank You for her life.

Now Jesus had not yet come to the village but was still in the place where Martha had met Him. When the Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary rise quickly and go out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there.
John 11:30, 31

Lord what a picture is painted by John for us to see and learn. You were on Your way to the home of Mary and Martha. Martha runs out to meet You as soon as she hears You are coming. There were people all around consoling Martha and Mary. Suddenly Mary runs out of their home and the Jewish people that were there helping her through a difficult time went with her.

Thank You Lord for the love You put deep within us to want t love and follow You.

Thank You for the love of these two women that ran to meet You.

Lord we too run to meet You because You are our Lord and Savior. We love you Lord.

Thank You for Your love for us.

Thank You Lord.

And when she (Mary) heard it, (that Jesus was calling for her) she rose quickly and went to Him. John 11:29

Lord when we heard You calling us we ran to You too.

How blessed we are to have You want us.

Thank You for Your unconditional love for us….a love that loves us in spite of our shortcomings…a love that picks us up and helps us start again.

Thank You for forgiveness.

Thank You for Your help and strength.

We need You Lord. Thank You for ALWAYS being with us.

When she (Martha) had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying quietly, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” John 11:27

Thank You Lord for the joy in having a sister.

Thank You for Martha’s love of her sister and because of that love she wanted her to know that You were there.

Oh how fortunate we are to be loved by You with Your unconditional love.

She (Martha) said to Him, (Jesus), “Yes, Lord; I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, He who is coming into the world.”
John 11:27

Lord we believe too. We know the rest of the story and what happened when You were here on earth.

Thank You for dying for us.

Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit after You left this earth.

Thank You for being with us every moment of every day.

We have much to thank You for Lord.
