Thought For Today

(Jesus continued) “I have said this to you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of the Father.” John 16:25

Lord what an interesting verse. You were telling Your disciples that You were going to speak to them so they could understand. It is You Lord that give us the ability to understand. So often our minds are clouded and we don’t understand until You come with enlightenment. You free us of the darkness and bring us into the light of Your knowledge. Oh how blessed we are when that awakening come. How we thank and praise You for the new insights. You are there….You are real. This must have been how the disciples felt as You continued to reveal Yourself to them.

Thank You Lord that You quicken our thoughts and cause us to understand Your truths.

Oh how blessed we are.

(Jesus continued) “When a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she is delivered of the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world. So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.”
John 16:21, 22

Lord it is a wonderful thought to remember that no one can take anything from us. They cannot take our joy.

Thank You that we can rejoice with others for all You have done for us.

We are your children. We are blessed. Thank You Lord.

Jesus knew that they (disciples) wanted to ask Him; so He said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I mean by saying, ‘A little while and, you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.” John 16:19, 20

Lord with this for an explanation I am not sure Your disciples understood what You meant any better than before You had tried to explain. You clearly understood what You were telling them but their minds could not comprehend all that You were trying to explain. They had to live the mystery.

Thank You Lord that we don’t have to understand everything about our lives today.

Thank You for Your perfect plan us.

Thank You for Your promise to always be with us.

Gifts from You Lord and we thank You.

Some of His (Jesus) disciples said to one another, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me;’ and, ‘because I go to the Father’?” They said, “What does it mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what He means.” John 16:17, 18

Lord these same disciples had been with You for a long time and yet there were many times they did not understand You. You tried to tell them what was going to happen and still they did not understand. I find so often that I am the same. There are times when I too don’t understand what You are doing or allowing. I too wonder just like these disciples.

Thank You Lord that You always see the end results.

Thank You that we can trust You with our lives.

Thank You for wanting the very best for us.

What more could we want Lord. What more could we ask.

(Jesus continued) “A little while and you will see Me no more; again a little while and you will see Me.” John 16:16

Lord we know what You meant but this was very confusing to Your disciples as we will see in these next verses. It took faith in You for them to continue following You.

Thank You Lord for the gift of faith.

Thank You for helping us understand.

Thank You for always being with us.

There is much to thank You for each moment of every day.

Oh how we thank You. Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) He (Counselor) will glorify Me, for He will take what is Mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is Mine; therefore I said that He will take what is Mine and declare it to you. John 16:14, 15

Thank You Lord for giving us the Counselor – Holy Spirit – when You left this earth.

Thank You that He points us to You.

Thank You that He helps us know You better and better.

Oh how wonderful it is to be lead by You Lord.

(Jesus continued talking about the Counselor that would come when He left this earth.) “I have yet many things to say to you but you cannot hear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own authority but whatever He hears He will speak and He will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:12

Lord how wonderful it is for us to live in this age.

Thank You for giving us the Spirit of truth.

Thank You for the insight that is ours because of Your gift to us.

Our lives are enriched …..our eyes are opened.

(Jesus continued) “And when He (Counselor) comes, He will convince the world of sin and of righteous and judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.” John 16:8 – 11

Thank You Lord for sending us the Counselor.

Thank You for the way He works in our lives to help us in the area of discernment.

Thank You for the comfort that is ours because we know He is guiding us.

Oh how fortunate we are Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” John 14:7

Thank You Lord for leaving this earth.

Thank You for giving us the Counselor.

Thank You for the peace that is ours when we trust You.

Thank You that our lives are in Your hands and Your control.

Oh how blessed we are Lord because of Your love for us.

(Jesus continued) “But now I am going to Him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going? But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.” John 16:5, 6

Lord I sure can identify with these disciples. You were leaving to go back to Your Father. I recently had my friend leave us to go to be with You. Yes we knew where he was going and yet it was a hard time and still is for all of us that knew and loved him. Oh yes, we accepted the fact that he was the one that was better off then we were because he was with You. But …. It still was all very hard to understand and like Your disciples our hearts were filled with sorrow.

And yet Lord….. we all thanked and praised You that we knew where he was.

We thanked and praised You that we would see him again just as we will see You Lord some day when our time comes.

We have been given all these gift because You went to prepare a place for us.
