Thought For Today

(Jesus continued) “I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, that they may all be one; even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me.”
John 17:20, 21

Thank You Lord for Your prayers.

Thank You for calling each one of us to come follow You.

Thank You for allowing us to bring Your good news to others.

Oh how blessed we are.

(Jesus continued) “And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.” John 17:19

Lord, I am reminded of the verses that says ‘you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.’ We are free today because You came to earth.

Thank You for being with us each moment of every day.

Thank You for the truth that allows us to be free.

We are Your children and You love us.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth. As Thou didst send Me into the world so I have sent them into the world.”
John 17:16 – 18

Lord Your scripture tells us we are not of this world just as You were not of this world. It tells us this world is not our home. Lord we know that but it is so easy for us to burrow in here and become comfortable. It is easy to forget how fragile life is until something happens beyond our control and we are changed. Then the reality of this verse sets in. Then we realize what You are talking about here. We are here to follow Your will for our lives. We are here to become more and more like You. We are here to be an example to those around us. We are here as Your servants.

Thank You Lord for the joy of being here.

Oh how blessed we are to be called Your children.

(Jesus continued) “I do not pray that Thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldst keep them from the evil one.”
John 17:15

Lord we are still in this world. We want to be kept from the evil one also. We recite Psalm 23 where we ask – lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

Thank You Lord for being our deliverer.

We can rest assured that You are there.

(Jesus continued) “I have given them Thy word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” John 17:14

Lord we know this world is not our home we are just passing through as the song reminds us. We don’t know how long we will be here but we do know this is not our home. You have prepared our final home for us.

Thank You Lord for preparing a place for us to spend all eternity.

Thank You for being with us each moment of every day.

Our life is in Your hands.

(Jesus continued) “But now I am coming to Thee, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.” John 17:13

Lord as a little girl I used to sing ….’If you want joy real joy let Jesus come into your heart.’ Those words have certainly proved to be a reality in my life.

Thank You Lord for filling us with Your joy.

We have it all when we follow You.

(Jesus continued) “While I was with them, I kept them in Thy name, which Thou hast given Me, I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.”
John 17:12

Lord, thank You for keeping Your disciples.

Thank You for keeping us.

Thank You for Your love that calls us to draw closer to You.

We are blessed Lord because You love us unconditionally.

(Jesus continued) “And now I am no more in the world, but they (disciples) are in the world, and I am coming to Thee, Holy Father, keep them in Thy name, which Thou has given Me, that they may be one, even as We are one.” John 17:11

Lord there was so much Your disciples did not understand when You were with them. Often they were full of question. And yet in the end they saw why You came. In this verse You were about to leave them. Your prayer was that they would remain faithful after You left this earth.

Thank You Lord for giving us the power to remain faithful.

Thank You for the tools we have that allow us to come closer to You.

Oh the gifts that we are given by keeping our eyes focused on You….PEACE, JOY, VICTORY….

(Jesus continued) “I am praying for them; I am not praying for the world but for those whom Thou hast given Me, for they are Thine; all Mine are Thine, and Thine are Mine, and I am glorified in them.”
John 17:9, 10

Lord thank You for Your love for Your followers.

While You were on earth You were praying for those that followed You. Thank You.

They were all very important to You. So important that You died for them.

Oh how much we are loved. Thank You.

(Jesus continued) “Now they know that everything that Thou has given Me is from Thee, for I have given them the words which Thou gavest Me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from Thee; and they have believed that Thou hast sent Me.” John 17:7, 8

Lord we believe….we know who You are and why You came.

Thank You for coming to the earth for us.

Thank You for being our example.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.
