Then, Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave and cut off his right ear. The slaves name was Malchus. Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me.” John 18:10, 11

Lord, Peter was acting on impulse to protect You. He loved You so much that he wanted You to be safe.

Thank You Lord for those that are on this earth to keep us safe.

Thank You for the many that watch over our country and our cities.

Oh nothing is perfect and certainly we do not live in a perfect world BUT there are those in power that try to do the best they can to keep us out of harms way.

Thank You that someday all will be changed and we will be with You forever and ever because You came and You died that we may live.

Oh how can we ever thank You enough Lord.

Thank You Lord.

Jesus answered, “I told you that I am He; so, if you seek Me, let these men go.” This was to fulfill the word which He had spoken, “Of those whom Thou gavest Me I lost not one. John 18:8, 9

Thank You Lord for watching over us just as You watched over Your disciples.

Thank You that we can have the confidence in You to know that You are always there.

Thank You for allowing us to come to You at any time of the day or night.

We are blessed Lord to be Your children.

Thank You Lord.

Then Jesus, knowing all that was to befall Him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am He.” Judas who betrayed Him was standing with them. John 18:4, 5

Lord our minds have been refreshed with this story because we just had Easter a week ago. We experienced the sadness of Good Friday and then the exhilaration of Easter Sunday when we sang “Up from the Grave He Arose.” That song is always sung with great joy as we experience the thought of the empty tomb with the angel there . It is such a beautiful story. It is history but it comes alive each year as we remember.

Your story is etched in my mind and heart because my mother would tell it so well with her flannel backgrounds beautifully painted and the figures place carefully as we heard each detail of what happened so long ago. The excitement in her voice caused each child to wait with anticipation to hear and see what was going to happen next. What a gift mom was for every child hearing those words. Your love shinned through her making Your love a reality in the hearts of all listening.

Thank You Lord for mom and those like her that carry Your message to young children.

Oh how blessed I was Lord and how I thank You. Thank You for those gifts that last a lifetime.

Thank You Lord.

So Judas, procuring a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there (garden) with lanterns and torches and weapons. John 18:3

Lord evil is hard for me to understand. All this evil in this world is hard for all of us. It reminds us that this world is not our home we are just passing through as the song of old tells us. BUT we are here and we must survive.

Thank You for coming to earth to redeem us.

Thank You for always being there when we cry out to You.

You Know! You Care! You love us and watch over us.

Thank You Lord.

Now Judas, who betrayed Him, (Jesus) also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples. John 18:2

Thank You Lord for knowing our hearts and our motives.

Thank You that there are no secrets that are kept from You.

Thank You for touching our lives with the reality of who You are and why You came to earth.

You are our Lord and Savior.

Thank You Lord.

When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples across the Kidron valley, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered. John 18:1

Lord we know the rest of the story. We just experienced Easter of 2012. The story is the same every year but somehow You continue to speak to me in a different way every time I hear it.

Thank You Lord for Your love that changes us into Your likeness.

Oh how we need You Lord. Thank You for always being with us.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “I made known to them Thy name, and I made it known, that the love with which Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” John 17:26

Thank You Lord for Your love….Your unconditional love.

Thank You for giving us Your love.

Oh to be like You Lord full of Your love and compassion.

You came to bring us life everlasting and we celebrated Easter because You live.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Oh righteous Father, the world has not known Thee, but I have known Thee; and these know that Thou hast sent Me.” John 17:25

Lord, Sunday is Easter Sunday. It is the day You rose from the dead. Today for all of us that love You it is a great day of celebration and rejoicing. John was telling us here how You talked with Your disciples right before all the events leading up to Your death. As we continue to read each day we will see more of the story. We will experience once again what we are experiencing this weekend. It is a sad time until Sunday comes and then it is a great day of rejoicing.

Thank You Lord for the price You paid for each one of us.

Thank You for the joy of Your resurrection.

Oh how we rejoice in the love You have shared with us. We are so, so blessed!

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Father, I desire that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, may be with Me where I am, to behold My glory which Thou hast given Me in Thy love for Me before the foundation of the world.” John 17:24

Thank You Lord for Your love.

John helps us see in this verse Your loving relationship with Your Father. This is the same love You have for us.

We need Your love Lord.

Thank You for being our example.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “The glory which Thou hast given Me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and Thou in Me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me and hast loved them even as Thou hast loved me.” John 17:22, 23

Lord Your love for us is so amazing. There is no other love like Yours. We can strive to become more and more like You and to love more and more like You love and with Your help each day we grow in love. You remind me Lord that love goes on forever and ever. It never ends.

Thank You Lord for loving us unconditionally.

There is no greater love than Your love.

Oh to love as You love Lord.

Thank You for loving us.

Thank You Lord.
