Thought For Today

So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with Him; (Jesus) but when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. He who saw it has bore witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he tells the truth –that you also may believe. John 19:32 – 35

Lord, my heart is full of gratitude for Your love for me.

Thank You for dying for me.

Thank You for the hope You bring.

Thank You for the joy You give.

Oh how blessed I am Lord.

Thank You Lord.

Since it was the day of Preparation, in order to prevent the bodies from remaining on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. John 19:31

Lord, once again we read of the cruel things that were done to You. They didn’t stop with You hanging on the cross and now they were going to be even hurtful. They were going to break Your legs.

Lord, there are so many in the world today that are just as evil as these soldiers were. They are not only out to get Your followers to stop following You but they are out to distracted. They want us to forget all about You.

Thanks Lord for Your overwhelming power in our lives.

We need You Lord and we want You. Thanks for helping us stay close to You.

After this (Jesus took care of His mother) Jesus, knowing that all was finished, said (to fulfill the scripture), “I thirst.” John 19:28

Lord, over and over You fulfilled the scripture. The scripture had been written long ago and now it was happening. You were living it.

Thank You Lord for fulfilling ALL the scripture.

Thank for helping us see Your humanness in all You went through

Thank You!

When Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing near, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. John 19:26, 27

Lord, these are very touching verses. You were concerned for Your mother. You knew how much she loved You and how hurt she was to see You hanging on the cross. You wanted to be sure that she was taken care of when You were no longer here.

Lord, You did not love Your mother any more than You love us. You want us to be taken care of too. You call us to come and follow You and find a peace that passes all understanding.

We are given an abundant life when we put our trust in You Lord.

So the soldiers did this. (cast lots for Jesus tunic) But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. John 19:25

Lord, how hard this must have been for all those watching this happen. Your mother ……there ….watching…..hurting more than she thought she could ever hurt….oh the pain she must have felt. And oh the pain You must have felt for her. You could have stopped that pain in an instant but You didn’t. You were here to save us all and Mary was to be an example for all of us today. And what a great example she truly is.

Thank You Lord for giving mothers so much love.

Thank You for Mary and all she went through as a mother that loved her Son.

Thank You for giving me the gift of a loving, Godly mother. I was truly blessed.

When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took His garments and made four parts, one for each soldier; also His tunic. But the tunic was without seam, woven from top to bottom; so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the scripture, “They parted my garments among them and for my clothing they cast lots.” John 19:23, 24

Lord when I read and pondered these verses at first they made no sense to me. Why would they want your garments. They killed You. They wanted no part of You and yet here they were dividing your garments and even casting lots to see who would get the tunic. And then the thought came to me….we are not talking about todays time when we can go and buy anything we want. Someone had to make these garments. Regardless who was wearing them they would be wanted….and especially the tunic because it was made in a very special and unique way.

How different our thoughts are because we love You Lord. We would want Your garments because You wore them. They would have a special meaning to us.

Thank You Lord for putting Your love in our hearts.

Thank You for compassion.

Thank You for dying for me.

The chief priests of the Jews then said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’” Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” John 19:21, 22

Lord for some reason these verses touched me to the core of my soul. It seems so often we try to do the right thing and the forces of evil come against us. Pilate was able to stand his ground because of who he was. He was a great example of what it is like to stand against the crowd for what You know God is calling You to do. That is not easy. It certainly was not easy for Pilate when everyone was yelling ‘crucify Him, crucify Him.’ Pilate made the sign. He knew who You were Lord. He did all he could to protect You.

Thank You Lord for Pilate and his example.

Thank You for those today that are like Pilate.

Thank You for giving us Your power and strength to ‘come follow You.’

Many of the Jews read this title, (“Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews”) for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek. John 19:20

Lord, we know today it was Your plan to redeem us. Pilot had no choice but to have You crucified. The sign He put over You told us what he thought about You. He did think You were truly the King.

Thank You Lord that today we have the Bible that gives us the history of Your life.

Oh there are many questions I would love to ask but we are told what we really NEED to know.

Thank You Lord for Your life here on earth and all we can learn from it.

So they took Jesus, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha. There they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. John 19:17, 18

“He came unto His own and His own and His own received Him not.” Lord we are seeing how this all came to pass in these verses. Pilate did his best to show the people Your innocence. It didn’t work and You are crucified with two others on either side.

Thank You Lord for dying for me.

Thank You for showing us how to obey to the end.

Thank You for Your peace.

Thank You Lord.

They (crowd) cried out, “Away with Him, (Jesus) away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” Then he handed Him over to them to be crucified. John 19:15, 16.

Lord, it would have been very hard to be Pilate. He really wanted to protect You and yet there was nothing he could do. The angry crowd was ready to lynch You. They wanted no part of You and wanted to get rid of You as quickly as they could. Scripture tells us that ‘You came unto Your own and they received You not.’

Once again Lord we have to thank You for men like Pilate that are willing to risk their all for others. Thank You for Pilate and his example.

Pilate shows us that there are times even though we strive to do what is best we lose because of others and their desires.

Life doesn’t always make sense Lord and in this case it probably didn’t make sense to Pilate either. But…. You had a plan and the plan was perfect.

Thank You for staying true to Your calling.
