Thought For Today

So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. Matthew 1:17

There was a plan Lord. This was the way Your plan was set into motion. Every fourteen years something happened up until the time You came to earth. The verses from 2 to 17 told of the lineage before You were born. We are fortunate to have this record.

Thank You Lord for the plan You have for the world.

Thank You for the plan You have for our lives. Oh, Lord so often we don’t understand it but You know just what You have planned for each one of us.

Thank You for helping us carry out Your plan. We need You Lord and we look to You for directions.

Thank You for always being with us.

Thank You Lord.

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew 1:1

Lord first we went through the book of Luke and then through the book of John. Now we want to look at Matthews’ account of Your life. Seems we see different things through different eyes.

Matthew starts his book by giving us the genealogy which shows us where You were in the line of descendants before You were born.

Thank You Lord for my descendants.

Thank You for their love of You and their prayers for me.

I thank You Lord especially for my Aunt Mary that has prayed for me ever since I was born. What a gift that has been in my life Lord. How wonderful it has been to thank You for keeping her here for 100 years. Amazing! We are all blessed because of her presence Lord.

(The writer of the book John continued) But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. John 21:25

Lord this was the last verse in the book of John. John ends the book by telling us that there is much more to tell.

Thank You Lord for the inspiration given John and the words he has written for all of us to learn more about You.

Thank You that all his words tell us more about You and point us to You.

Thank You Lord for giving me the opportunity to learn more bout You because this was the book You chose to teach me through. Oh how blessed I am.

The saying spread abroad among the brethren that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?” This is the disciple who is bearing witness to these things, and who has written these things; and we know that his testimony is true. John 21:23, 24

Lord, thank You for John’s account of what happened while You were here.

John called himself the disciple that You loved. And….John was right. You did love Him. You had called him to come…be Your disciple. And you left all and went and followed.

Thank You Lord for helping us to be obedient to Your calling. You call us Lord and then You give us the option of following or turning and walking the other way.

How blessed we are! The choice is ours Lord.

Peter turned and saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, who had lain close to His breast at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray You?” John 21:20

Lord, it is wonderful to love and to be love. We sure can’t give the kind of love that You gave and still give today. Your love is totally unconditional. Our love is so broken. And yet You have told us that love goes on when all else passes away. You have told us that it goes on forever and ever.

Thank You Lord for the gift of love. Thank You for Your love and thank You for the love of others.

What a gift and what a blessing You have given us. It is ours for the taking.

When Peter saw him, (John) he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man” Jesus said to him, “If it is My will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow Me.” John 21:21, 22

Lord we could take Your words in two different ways. They could sound very sharp and harsh or they could sound comforting. It could have been meant to give Peter the thought that he didn’t have to be concerned about anything but following You.

Thank You Lord that You call us all to come and follow You.

Thank You for our gift of life.

(Jesus continued talking with Simon Peter) “Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to go.” (This He said to show by what death He was to glorify God.) And after this He said to him, “Follow me.” John 21:18, 19

Thank You Lord that we are given the privilege of being here for Your glory.

Thank You for helping us along this journey to follow Your plan for our lives.

Thank You for teaching us more and more about Your unconditional love for us.

So many mysteries Lord and one by one each day they unfold. You are there! You care!

He (Jesus) said to him, (Simon Peter) the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because he said to Him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord You know everything; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep.” John 21:17

Lord we understand how Simon Peter felt. You had asked him if he loved You three times and then You told him to feed Your sheep. Each time he had told You that he did love You. Finally he said to You, You know everything – in other words You already know the answer so why are You asking.

Thank You Lord for knowing all about us.

Thank You for knowing our deepest thoughts and desires.

Thank You for knowing and understanding our motives.

Oh how blessed we are Lord that You know us so completely.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.

A second time He (Jesus) said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” “He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep” John 21:16

Lord, we know that You loved Simon Peter and had called him to become one of Your disciples. Now You were calling him in a whole new way. Before You had been feeding the lambs and the sheep. Now You were calling for Simon Peter to do it for You. We know that You knew Simon Peter loved You and yet You kept asking him if he did.

Thank You Lord for Your call on each one of our lives.

Thank You for giving us the opportunity to serve You.

Thank You for always giving us the wisdom and power to carry out what You are calling us to.

We are never on our own Lord. You are always by our side to help us.

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” John 21:15

Lord, You know our hearts and You see our thoughts and yet You asked Simon Peter if he loved You.

Simon Peter’s answer is like what we would answer – ‘Of course Lord You know I love You.’

You knew that Simon Peter needed to hear his own answer because You were going to put action to Your words.

Feed My lambs – teach others what You know about Me. Nurture them and allow them to have the opportunity to grow.

Thank You Lord for giving us the opportunity to ‘feed Your lambs.’

Thank You for giving us the knowledge and for helping us grow in Your grace and love.

Oh how blessed we are Lord and how humble I feel.
