Thought For Today

And he (Joseph) rose and took the Child, and His mother by night and departed to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt have I called My Son.” Matthew 2:14, 15

Lord, it was as if Joseph and Mary were fugitives on the run with You. Herod was a very jealous King. This period in the life of Joseph must have been very frightening. He was running from an angry king. A king that had been tricked by the wise men when they went a different way so they did not have to see Herod.

Thank You Lord that Your plan is always a perfect plan.

Thank You that Your plan for our lives is perfect too.

Oh to relax and allow You to be in control. That is my goal. That is my desire. With Your help Lord it can happen.

Thank You! Thank You Lord.

Now when they (wise men) departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the Child and His mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the Child, to destroy Him. Matthew 2:13

Lord, as I read this verse it made me think about Joseph and his feeling. He knew he wasn’t the father of this Child and now an angel is telling him to leave his home and go to Egypt. It sure wasn’t as easy to get there as it is today. He was faced with a challenge.

Thank You Lord that You are always there even in those instances that are hard to understand and challenging.

Thank You that You were right there with Joseph and You are right here with us today.

You are always with us.

(Wise men) And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way. Matthew 2:12

Lord it is interesting how You work in our lives. A dream…warned in a dream…. So they went a different way to avoid the king and his questions.

Lord often we don’t understand why You have us go another way. There are those times when we get a glimpse and wonder …. I was on vacation last week and when I got home there was an enormous limb on the beach in front of my cottage. My neighbor said – no there was no storm….no wind…just all of a sudden we heard a crackling and it fell. She said to her husband – it sure is a good thing Pat isn’t home because she often pulls weeds sitting under that tree.

Maybe that was why I went on vacation? I’ll never know but I can certainly thank You for Your protection.

Thank You Lord for always being with us to protect, guide and to cheer.

We are tremendously blessed!

When they had heard the king they (wise men) went their way; and lo, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the Child was. Matthew 2:9

Lord, these were very wise men. They could see what the king was plotting and they wanted no part of it. Of course they were risking their lives by not obeying the king. They certainly were listening to a higher calling.

Thank You Lord for those that will risk their lives for You and for us.

Thank You for those that are called to carry out Your plan and are willing to do that even when it doesn’t seem to make sense. Lord we read of those times so often when we read about Your prophets.

Thank You for always being at our side to help us when we call out to You.

We are blessed Lord.

Thank You, thank You Lord.

Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star appeared; and he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the Child, and when you have found him bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” Matthew 2:7, 8

Lord, there are liars in this world that can look so innocent on the surface. They try to deceive us. They could cause us to fall into their venomous traps. They may even appear to love You and in reality they are totally against You.

Help us Lord to keep our eyes sharply placed upon You and Your will for our lives. May we always listen intently to Your still small voice that leads us and directs us.

Thank You for loving us so much Lord. We love You.

They told him, (Herod) “In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it is written by the prophet: ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will govern my people Israel.’ Matthew 2:5, 6

Lord once again Matthew tells us how the scriptures that were given so long ago were becoming news today.

Thank You for Matthew.

Help us to watch and do what we can to encourage others.

Thank You for Your unconditional love.

Thank You that You are always available. What a gift!

When Herod the king heard this, (Jesus was born) he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him, and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. Matthew 2:3, 4

Thank You Lord for Your perfect plan for our salvation.

Thank You for coming to earth as a baby.

Thank You for all we can learn from the scriptures about how You lived Your life when You were here.

Oh to be like You Lord…. Oh to be like You!

Thank You for Your help each day. Oh how we need it Lord.

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:1, 2

Lord it is very interesting to see how Matthew tells the story of Your birth that is different from the others that tell the same story. It is like each of us today that tell something different when at the same event. Thank You for each of their views and the story they present.

Thank You too Lord for the wise men because they were truly ‘wise’ in seeking You.

Thank You for each person today that seeks until they find You and when they find You have changed lives.

Thank You for always being there with open arms to receive us.

Oh how grateful we are Lord because You came to earth to redeem us.

When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took his wife, but knew her not until she had borne a son; and he called His name Jesus Matthew 1:24, 25

Thank You Lord for obedience.

Thank You for Joseph’s decision to listen to the angel and obey.

Thank You for Your plan to come to earth for our redemption.

We are free because of You Lord.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. Matthew 1:18, 19

Lord, thank You for Matthew’s account of Your birth.

Thank You for the detail he goes into to give us Your story.

Thank You for the faith You give each of us that read this story and experience the wonder of it all.

Thank You for the Holy Spirit that brings us the enlightenment we need to believe and understand.

Oh how blessed we are Lord because You came to earth as a baby.
