(Jesus continued) “And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:16 – 18

Fasting….. Lord there is much that could be said about fasting. Here You were talking with those that fasted so they could be thought of as someone special. It was the ‘me’ emphasis and not that it would bring honor and glory to Your name.

Thank You Lord for knowing all about us.

Thank You for understanding our motives.

Thank You for knowing our desires.

Thank You that there is no part of us that You do not understand. Oh how blessed we are.

Thank You Lord.

Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and His name shall be called Emmanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23

Lord what a wonderful day December 25th is because we all celebrate Your birth.

Oh yes, we have carried it way beyond Your birth and made it very commercial. And yet….at the very core of each of us that know You and love You it cannot take away our awe and reverence for the fact that You came.

Thank You for coming here to give us eternal life. A life with You that goes on forever and ever.

You came because of Your love for each of us as individuals.

How grateful we are Lord for Your love …..Your unconditional love.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

Merry Christmas! May You be filled with His peace and joy.

(Jesus continued) “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but iif you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your transpasses.”
Matthew 6:14, 15

Lord You talk a lot in scripture about forgiveness. That tells me it is very important to You. We must forgive. There isn’t an option….we MUST forgive.

Thank You Lord for helping us forgive.

Thank You for the peace in knowing You are with us and You will help us.

Thank You for teaching us how to forgive.

With Your help we have the power we need.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Matthew 6:11 – 13

Lord we have so much to thank You for. Especially we are thankful at this time of the year for Your love and compassion.

Thank You for forgiving us.

Thank You for Your strength within us that enables us to have the power to forgive. Forgiving is not a natural instinct but one we must cultivate to allow it to grow.

Thank You for helping us when we are tempted.

We are blessed Lord because You love us. Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10

Thank You Lord that we can count on and know that Your will will always be done on earth and in heaven.

Thank You for the joy of this season as we celebrate Your birth.

Thank You for Your promise to come to earth again.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Pray then like this; Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be they name.” Matthew 6:9

Thank You Lord that You are ‘Our Father.’

Certainly Your name is Hallowed.

Thank You for answered prayers.

Thank You for allowing us to pray.

Oh how thankful we are for Your healing touch.

Thank Youl

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” Matthew 6:7, 8

Thank You Lord for the opportunity to come ‘boldly’ before You with our requests.

Thank You for hearing us in our simple broken way without empty phrases and words.

Thank You for knowing all about us and loving us just as we are.

Oh how blessed we are Lord because of Your unconditional love.

Thank You! Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

Lord first of all we want to thank You for allowing us to come to You and ask.

Thank You for always being there when we cry out to You.

Thank You for showering us with Your blessings.

Thank You Lord

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. Matthew 6:5

Thank You Lord for Your love – Your unconditional love.

Thank You for humility.

Thank You for wanting us to ‘be still and know that You are God.’

Oh Lord we are so, so blessed.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
Matthew 6:2 – 4

Lord when I read verses such as this one it reminds me of the verse that tells us ‘pride goes before a fall.’

Thank You for seeing our hearts and knowing our thoughts and desires.

Thank You for giving us the desire to do all for Your honor and Your glory.

Thank You Lord! Thank You.
