Thought For Today

(Jesus continued) “Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon the house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” Matthew 7:24, 25

Oh Lord this is what each of us that follow You want for our lives. We all want to be strong.

Thank You for ALWAYS being there when we cry out to You.

We are so, so blessed.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and cast out demons in Your name, and do many mighty works in Your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’”
Matthew 7:22, 23

Lord, You told us in the verse before this one that those that do the will of Your Father are the ones that will go to heaven. These men were saying they were doing things in Your name to bring glory to themselves. That is why You called them evildoers.

Thank You Lord that as we listen to You we are guided to do Your will.

Thank You that we know it is not ‘all about us’ but all about doing Your will.

Thank You Lord for giving us the knowledge and wisdom we need to follow You.

Oh what a wonderful gift that is.

(Jesus continued) “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven” Matthew 7:21

Lord, it is our desire to do Your will. We want to be all we were created to be. We want to grow in Your love and compassion. Oh how short we fall from our goals. We need Your help and guidance and even then we often miss the mark.

Thank You for Your patience and Your love.

Thank You for helping us each day as we reach for You.

How thankful we are Lord that You are ALWAYS there for us.

(Jesus continued) “A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits.” Matthew 7:18 – 20

Thank You Lord for using an illustration that we all can understand.

Thank You for helping us be the ‘good fruit’ producers.

Thank You for calling us to be more and more like You.

Thank You for Your example and Your unconditional love.

(Jesus continued) “You will know them (false prophets) by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? So every sound tree bears good fruit but the bad tree bears evil fruit.”
Matthew 7:16, 17

Lord these verses remind me of the song ‘And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love and they’ll know we are Christians by our love.’ Are we bearing good fruit? Are others seeing Jesus in us? Do we truly ‘care’ about others?

Lord of ourselves we fall so short. It is only as Your Holy Spirit enables us that we are able to go beyond what we would ever dream possible.

Thank You for Your power. Thank You for Your strength. Thank You for Your wisdom.

In You Lord we have our answers.

Lord, discernment is a great gift. I pray for it. It is something that we all need to survive in this world.

Thank You for our guidelines.

Thank You for helping us see with open eyes all that is going on around us.

Thank You for helping us see the ‘truth’.

We are blessed Lord because of You.

(Jesus continued) “So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12

Lord – this sounds to me as if it is where the ‘golden rule’ came from…..’do unto others what you would have them do unto you.’ Most of us have recited it at different times in our live. Most people strive to live by it. It is certainly something to try to do each day.

With Your guidance and a whole lot of trial and error we can get better and better every day.

Thank You Lord for helping us become more and more like You.

Oh how great it is to have You in our live.

(Jesus continued) “If you then who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!.” Matthew 7:11

Lord I am so often reminded that I really don’t know what ‘good things’ are. So often what I want and what You want for my life are oh so very, very different. I must admit that I am very ungrateful. Yes, I even act like a spoiled brat. You are always there – calling me back – showing me how I need to change. Giving me Your unconditional love.

Thank You for Your patience with me Lord.

Thank You for Your love. I love You Lord and want to be the best I can for You.

(Jesus continued) “Or if he (son) asks (his father) for a fish, will give him a serpent?” Matthew 7:10

Lord this verse has made me think because if my father were still on this earth I would be calling today and wishing him a Happy Birthday. Today I have been reflecting on his love for me and our relationship. I have had a heart of gratitude …..and of love.

And …..knowing my own father would have given me whatever he could to make my life more enjoyable I can relate to this verse. Lord…sad to say there are many that cannot relate to it. They must accept this with a greater faith than I have to accept it with.

You are there for both of us Lord. You know our hearts. You see our needs and our shortcomings. You meet each needs. You answer each prayer. Thank You!

(Jesus continued) “For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 6:9

Lord once again we see in this verse that all we have to do is take the action to ask, seek or knock.

Thank You Lord for always answering when we call out to You.

Thank You for opening our eyes of understanding.

Thank You for bring joy and peace.

Oh how thankful I am because I have You at the helm of my life.
