He (Jesus) answered, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are the angels.” Matthew 13:37 – 40

Thank You Lord that when we look to You and trust You we sow good seed.

Thank You for helping us see with Your eyes of understanding.

Oh how grateful we are to have Your love flowing through us.

Thank You Lord.

Then He (Jesus) left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” Matthew 13:36

Lord it is interesting how You had been with the crowd and went into the house. Your disciples came with You. There was something they didn’t understand about the parable You had talked about. Thank You Lord that You are there to answer our questions.

We have questions today. There are many things we don’t understand. We can ask You. Some we will know the answer to and some will not be revealed to us.

Thank You for meeting each of us right where we are. Thank You for giving us understanding hearts.

Oh how blessed we are Lord and we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

All this Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed He said nothing to them without a parable. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.” Matthew 13:34, 35

Lord thank You for coming to earth and fulfilling all the prophecies.

Thank You that we can trust You for all our needs.

Just as You fulfilled the prophecies You fulfill all the words that You spoke.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

He (Jesus) told them another parable, “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.” Matthew 13:33

Lord this parable doesn’t mean a lot to me because I don’t need to use leaven today. What I do know though is how You work in our lives to ‘leaven’ out the lumps and bumps we have in our own personalities. You have the power to change us if we will let You. Yes… You can even smooth out (leaven) those thing that are so irritating to us. We are changed into Your likeness as we continue to look to You.

Oh how great it is to be Your child. Thank You for Your unconditional love and compassion.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Another parable He (Jesus) put before them saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31, 32

Lord, as a teenager I had a necklace with a round ball with a mustard seed in it. I could see how small the seed truly was. I knew You told us that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed we could move mountains. That necklace reminded me that even with my small amount of faith You were there will me to help me.

Thank You for being that same Lord today that You were all those years ago.

You still love me with Your everlasting love that is unconditional. Oh how I thank You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued talking about the good seeds) “And the servants of the householder came and said to him, (owner) ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he said, ‘No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, ‘Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned but gather the wheat into my barns.’” Matthew 13:27

Lord, we are in this world with all kinds of people. How fortunate we are to be with those that love You. As this parable tells us there are others that are the tares that would want to destroy all You are doing.

Thank You Lord for keeping us strong as we lean upon You.

Thank You for Your wisdom.

Oh how fortunate we are Lord because we have You.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

Another parable He, (Jesus) put before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. Matthew 13:24-26

Lord this was a story You were telling …..a parable. How cruel this sounds. There is more to this story and we will continue with it as we do each days scripture. It is interesting that You are comparing this to the ‘kingdom of heaven.’

‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed.’ Thank You Lord that we are that ‘man’ that is sowing the good seed with Your help.

Thank You that we strive to keep from sowing the ‘weeds’ among the good that is going on around us.

Thank You for helping us see AND appreciate those good people that are in our lives.

We are blessed by so many Lord and I thank You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.” Matthew 13:22

Lord, we certainly know what it is like to have the cares of this world choke You out. It seems there are never enough hours in any day to do the thing that we absolutely have to do let alone things we would like to do. You so often take a back burner in our lives. It seems the harder we try and the more determined we become the harder it is to find the time to spend with You. We love You Lord but oh…..it takes real determination to spend time in Your word and in prayer.

Thank You Lord for helping us through our struggles to remain faithful to You.

Oh how we want to be all You created us to be. Thank You for never giving up on us.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.” Matthew 13:20, 21

Lord there are so many reasons why people don’t continue to follow You. Here You are referring to those that quickly act as if they are believing in You but when the times get tough they renounce You and leave You.

Thank You Lord for teaching us how to trust You in all areas of our life.

Thank You for the assurance that You are always there with us.

Thank You for always hearing us when we call.

Oh how grateful we are Lord for Your love for us.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.
