Thought For Today

Then He (Jesus) ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish He looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. Matthew 14:19

Lord what an amazing event. In my mind I can see the people looking at each other in amazement. They must have been amazed as the food kept being passed out. There were only 2 fish and 5 loaves. Where was all the food coming from. Who is this man …..He must be the Son of God. Who else could do such things as this.

Thank You Lord for the miracles You allowed to be told to show us just how much You loved those that gathered to hear You.

Oh how blessed we are Lord.

They (Jesus disciples) said to Him, (Jesus) “We have only five loaves here and two fishes. And He said, “Bring them here to me.” Matthew 14:17, 18

Lord, this is such an exciting story. I always loved telling this to young children. It has such a great message for all of us adults too. Nothing is impossible for You. Nothing!!!!

The crowd had gathered. It was getting dark. The disciples wanted to send the crowd home. You Lord had another plan.

Thank You Lord for always being with us.

Thank You for the miracles we see every day just by being alive.

Thank You that there is nothing too hard for you.

Oh how we Love You. Thank You.

Jesus said, (to his disciples) “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” Matthew 14:16

Lord, there was a great big group of people gathered that You were healing and the disciples wanted to send them back to their homes before it got to late in the evening. You say ‘no, don’t send them home’….You tell your disciples to feed them. Lord they had already told You there was nothing for them to eat. As we read on we will see this is the story of the 5 loaves and 2 fish. What an exciting event this turned out to be.

Lord we have just read the story of what happened to John the Baptist. Now we are reading about this large group that has gather and You are healing the sick. Now You want the disciples to feed them.

Who can know the mind of the Lord….. We sure can’t…. BUT…. we know that Your promises tell us that – ‘ALL things work together for good when we love You.’ What a promise. What a gift. We are in Your hands and we thank You.

When it was evening, the disciples came to Him (Jesus) and said, “This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowd away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” Matthew 14:15

Interesting here Lord that You were not stopping Your time of healing those in the crowd that needed Your touch. Your disciples had to come to You and tell You to let the people leave.

Thank You Lord that there is no time that isn’t the right time to come to You.

Thank You for waiting for us with open arms of love.

What a gift! What a blessing!

As He (Jesus) went ashore He saw a great throng; and He had compassion on them and healed their sick. Matthew 14:14

Compassion….. Thank You Lord for compassion.

Thank You for Your compassion and healing touch.

Now when Jesus heard this (John the Baptist was beheaded), he withdrew from there in a boat to a lonely place apart. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the towns. Matthew 14:13, 14

Lord, the crowds would not leave You alone. They must have wondered what You would do. They followed You while You were in the boat.

Thank You Lord for showing us how to grieve. You loved John. I am sure the crowd was all watching You….wondering.

You went off into the boat to a ‘lonely place apart.’

You knew what had happened. You could have chosen to change anything. You didn’t change anything.

There are times we too hope that You will change our circumstance and You don’t change anything. You had a purpose and a plan hard as it is for us to handle. YOU are there….You never leave us.

And his (John the Baptist) disciples came and took the body and buried it; and they went and told Jesus. Matthew 14:13

Lord, what must John’s disciples have thought with him being beheaded. At least they were there to take his body and bury it. They loved him and had listen to him tell about You. It must have been a very sad and hard day for them.

There are often hard days like this is our lives today too Lord. Oh perhaps not someone being beheaded. ..but there are many tragedies that we wonder where You are and why things have happened the way they have.

Thank You Lord for Your promise to never give us more than we can handle.

Thank You for the assurance that You will always be with us.

We need You in our lives Lord and we thank You that You are ALWAYS with us.

And the king (Herod) was sorry; but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given; he sent and had John beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. Matthew 14:9 – 11

Lord this is so sickening that I can hardly stand to write about it.

John was a wonderful man that had loved and served You his whole life. He loved You and everything he did was to please You.

This was a horrible death. Horrible. Humiliating death. What good are we to find in it.

Lord how often have we said that as we ourselves cry out to You. Why? What purpose does this serve? Where are you Lord? And You call us back to our foundation….this world is not our home…..we are just passing through. There is a home prepared for us. You care! You love us!

Thank You for Your strength and power in our lives. Oh how we need You Lord. We thank You for Your many blessings.

Prompted by her mother, she said, (to Herod) “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” Matthew 14:8

Lord this thought makes me sick to my stomach to even think of it. How could anyone make such a request. It seems so cruel and so sickening. John was an innocent man trying to follow You and do what You were asking of him. How sad and how cruel and all because a promise was made.

Thank You Lord for always being with us to help us through our difficult hours.

Oh how we need You Lord. Thank You for never leaving us.
