(Jesus continued) “He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:11, 12

Thank You Lord for the gift of humility.

When I think of someone who was on this earth other than You who was an example of humility I immediately think of Mother Teresa. There was nothing about what she did that she would ever try and bring attention to herself. It was all about You Lord. She wanted to bring the attention to You. She wanted to show others that ‘one’ person made a difference. She loved people ‘one’ at a time to show them Your love and that You cared about them.

Humility is a great gift and we all need it. Everything that we are…..everything that we have….is all because of You. We thank You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “And call no man your father on earth, for you have on Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ.” Matthew 23:9, 10

Lord You are our Fathers. You are our Master. Oh how grateful we are that we are called the children of God.

You came. You died. You rose again.

Oh how we thank You and praise You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “But you (crowd and Jesus disciples) are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren.” Matthew 23:8

Thank You Lord for being our teacher.

Thank You for the unity of those that love and serve You.

Thank You for calling to us to ‘come follow You.’

Oh how we need You and Oh how we thank You.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

(Jesus continued talking about the scribes and Pharisees.) They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seat in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men. Matthew 23:5 – 7

Lord, we all know people like this that NEED to be seen and put on a pedestal. You take a back seat in their lives totally because they are into themselves and what they can get out of life.

Thank You for helping us because we do need Your help to not be like them.

Thank You for showing us that without You we are nothing….all we have is because You have given it to us.

Thank You for Your strength and power to give YOU ALL the glory. We love You Lord and we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

Then said Jesus to the crowds and to His disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do, for they preach, but do not practice.” Matthew 23: 1 – 3

Lord You continued to expose the way the scribes and Pharisees were different from what You want us to be like as Your followers. Oh they felt they were doing the will of God in the way they were acting but it was all an act. There was no substance and yet they expected the others to be followers of the law.

These men didn’t want to know You or love You. They were acting pious but were nowhere close to knowing You.

Thank You Lord for Your unconditional love. How I thank You for Your patience and understand as we try to do our best for You. Oh how we appreciate Your love.

Thank You! Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “On these two commandment depend all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:40

Lord You were telling the Pharisees that were trying to discredit You with their question – ‘what was the great commandment in the law’ that they needed to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul and mind. That was # 1 and # 2 was to love their neighbor as themselves.

Lord I think You are speaking those same words to us today. How do we love? Where does our loyalty lie.

Thank You for Your power within us that helps us want to be different.

Thank You for giving us the desire to become more and more like You.

Thank You for Your strength and Your wisdom.

We are so blessed Lord and we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

(The lawyer asked Jesus a question.) “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” And He (Jesus) said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.” Matthew 22:36 -38

Thank You Lord for giving us the ability to love You with our hearts, souls and minds.

Thank You for continuing to teach us as we walk and talk with You.

Oh how we love You Lord….oh how we need You ….. Thank You for never leaving us or forsake us.

Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

And one of them, a lawyer, asked Him (Jesus) a question, to test Him. Matthew 22:36

Lord once again we see someone trying to test You and trip You up. Now it is a lawyer. None of the others could succeed so now a lawyer was trying.

Thank You Lord for seeing our hearts and knowing our thoughts.

Thank You for helping us know the answers when others question us about our faith in You.

Oh how we need Your insights Lord and Your wisdom. Thank You that it is ours when we ask and seek You.

Oh how we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

But when the Pharisees heard that He (Jesus) had silenced the Sadducees, they came together. Matthew 22:34

Lord, we know how this story ends and yet it is interesting to look at it verse by verse. First the Pharisees came to try and trip You up with their questions and they left without accomplishing it. Next the Sadducees did the same thing and they couldn’t get the job done either. Now they have joined forces to see if together they can get You to say something that would give them reason to arrest You.

How blessed we are Lord that You knew just what to do and what to say. You are our example. You are our lighthouse. You give us wisdom and teach us how to stand firm in what we believe. Oh how we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

But Jesus answered them, (Pharisees) “You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at His teaching. Matthew 22:28 -33

Thank You Lord for the insights You give us that love and worship You.

Thank You for always being with us to listen no matter when we come to You in prayer.

Oh how we love You Lord and thank You that You love us unconditionally.

Thank You! Thank You Lord.
