But Jesus rebuked him (unclean spirit) saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. Mark !:25, 26

Thank You Lord for allowing all of us to see and read about Your power when You were on this earth.

There is nothing too hard for You Lord and we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” Mark 1:23, 24

Lord I wonder what all those in the synagogue thought when this unclean spirit cried out. I can imagine everyone was quiet and questioning. They had no doubt ever seen anything like this. Because you were there the unclean spirit was revealed.

Thank You Lord for helping us today. There are still those in our world that want to destroy all the good that You have done. I’m so glad You are still in control.

Thank You for Your insights….oh how we need them Lord. Thank You.

Thank You Lord.

And they (people in the synagogue at Capernaum) were astonished at His (Jesus) teaching, for He taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. Mark 1:22

Lord we are all so very, very blessed because You are teaching us every day of our lives if we will but open our ears and eyes to learn.

Thank You for the intellect to learn.

Thank You for the joy in learning.

You made us to learn and grow and we thank You.

Thank You Lord.

And going on a little farther, He (Jesus) saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed Him. Matthew 1:19, 20

Lord these are such interesting verses. Yesterday our verses told us about Simon and Andrew leaving when they were casting their nets to catch fish. Today we see that James and John were mending their nets and they immediately left their father and the hired servants and went with You.

What made them drop what they were doing and follow You. Obviously they knew who You were and what You were doing. They were willing to leave everything and follow You.

Today how thankful I am that we too are called to come follow You Lord. Our lives are changed when we answer Your call. Oh how I thank You for Your changes in my life.

Thank You Lord.

And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, He (Jesus) saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Mark 1:16-18

Lord this always amazed me the way these two men just dropped everything and followed You. I have always wondered if there was someone there that took care of what they left behind. Mark was not a detail person in his writing and we don’t hear much of the story. We do see that they left ‘immediately’….no thinking….they left immediately.

Thank You for Your gentle call to come follow You. How wonderful it is when we hear Your still small voice and follow Your leading.

Oh how we need You and thank You for calling us.

Thank You Lord.

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14, 15

Thank You Lord for Your message – repent and believe. That same message that You preached all those years ago is the same one everyone needs to hear today.

You came to earth to redeem us. You call us all. It is our choice to accept You or reject You.

Thank You for giving each one of us the opportunity to know and love You. We are so, so blessed. Thank You!

Thank You Lord.

And He (Jesus) was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him. Mark 1:13

Lord this is all Mark records about Your time spent in the wilderness. He doesn’t give us a lot of details. Mark puts that whole 40 days in a neat little package and tells us that the angels ministered to You.

Thank You Lord for Your ministering angels. And I do truly believe Lord they are there and they do minister to us.

But I also thank You for those that are on this earth as humans. We are not an island unto ourselves Lord. We do need one another. Often we need a loving angel to help us through the many difficult times in life that it seems come from nowhere. You send them Lord and we thank You for each one of them.

Oh how ‘I’ thank You.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

The Spirit immediately drove Him (Jesus) out into the wilderness. Mark 1:12

Lord there are many things in the scripture that I don’t understand and just have to accept. This is one of them. Perhaps some day in my spiritual growth I will get better insight than I am receiving today. That is always my desire and my prayers.

What I do see is that You Lord were driven out to the wilderness by the Spirit of God. As we will learn You were tempted and yet never gave in to that temptation.

Perhaps what I am to see is that You were tempted as we are and were given an escape from that temptation. Thus showing us that when we are tempted we too have an escape when we cry out to You.

Oh how grateful I have been for Your help in my life and certainly give You all the praise and glory. You have never failed me. You have always been there and I thank You.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

And when He (Jesus) came up out of the water, immediately He saw the heavens open and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “Thou art My beloved Son; in whom I am well pleased.” Luke 1:10, 11

Lord what an awesome gift it would be for us to hear the words You heard after Your baptism….’Thou art My beloved Son; in whom I am well pleased.’

Just as You were here to do Your Father’s will I too want to do all You are calling me to do. Some day when I meet You I want to hear what You heard….’I am well pleased. ‘

Oh how I thank You for always being with me to guide and direct. Thank You for ears to hear and a heart full of love for all You have given me. Oh how I praise You and thank You.

Thank You Lord! Thank You.

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Mark 1:9

Lord here was a man that was really weird looking because of the way he was dressed. And he only ate locus and honey. We could certainly not think of him as someone You could be baptized by or even want to associate with. And yet…..You were baptized by him.

Life is so opposite of what our finite minds can think of Lord. You know all things and do all things well. Oh how we need to keep our eyes and our thoughts centered on You and full of praise for all You are doing that we don’t see or understand. I certainly am the first to question Lord and wonder. Thank You for scriptures like this one that bring me back to where I need to be. Oh how I need You Lord and I thank You for Your unconditional love.

Thank You Lord. Thank You….
