Then He (Jesus) commanded them (the crowd) to all sit down by companies upon the green grass. So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. Mark 6:39, 40

Lord, I can see this great multitude of people listening to You and doing what You asked….sitting down. They didn’t have a clue at that point what was going to happen they just obeyed.

Thank You Lord that we too may not have a ‘clue’ why You are asking us to do something but You put it in our hearts to want to obey You. Often with our blind faith we obey. Sometimes we see why and more often than not we never know why. The awesome part of it all is that You give us the wisdom to accomplish what You call us to do.

Oh how we thank You. Oh how we praise You. Oh how we love You.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

And He (Jesus) said to them, (His disciples) “How many loaves have you? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” Mark 6:38

Lord it is so interesting that there was a crowd of 5,000 plus women and children and yet there were only five loaves of bread and two fish. That tells me that when You came to the area they all just ran to see what would happen. No one stopped to pack a lunch or even thought about eating.

How was such a large crowd going to be fed. Your disciples didn’t question they just went to see what was available in the crowd. I wonder if Your disciples thought perhaps those that had food would share it. Perhaps they thought there would be enough to share that all could eat something.

Thank You Lord for the miracle that is about to take place. These that came to see and hear You certainly never went away disappointed. You were there…You fed them…. You showed all the power of God. Oh how we stand in awe and thank You.

Thank You Lord.

But He (Jesus) answered them, (His disciples) “You give them (the crowd) something to eat.” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?” Mark 6:37

And now Lord we are going to read and sit at Your feet to listen to what You have to teach us today about the feeding of the 5,000. And what a story it is. I used to love telling the children in Sunday School and Bible School this story. It was something even the littlest of children could understand.

Today Lord it seems even more exciting for me to think of this event. To have been in that crowd that day must have been an amazing event.

Thank You Lord for showing us Your power. There is NOTHING too hard for You. Oh how blessed we are to be able to come to You and know that You hear us and understand. We thank You!

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

As He (Jesus) landed (by boat) He saw a great throng and He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things. Mark 6:34

Lord You had taken Your disciples away in the boat because they could not even eat without the crowds pressing in around them. Now You Yourself had so much compassion on those that were there that You began teaching them.

Thank You Lord for the compassion You show to us today. You sent Your Holy Spirit to bring us comfort and joy.

Thank You for ‘never leaving or forsaking’ us. We are truly blessed.

Thank You…. Thank You Lord.

Now many saw them (Jesus and his disciples) going, and knew them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns, and got there ahead of them. Mark 7:33

Lord the crowds were always around You and Your disciples. After all why wouldn’t they be when so many spectacular things were taking place. There were many that believed in You and there were those that just wanted to see what was was going on.

Thank You for Your love for us. We love You Lord.

Thank You. Thank You Lord.

And He (Jesus) said to them, (disciples) “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a lonely place by themselves. Mark 6:31, 32

Lord it is so easy for us even today to become so busy doing good things that we can neglect our own needs. That is often the case for caregivers.

Thank You for recognizing the needs of Your own disciples. Thank You for taking care of them.

Thank You for recognizing our needs today too Lord. Thank You for the promise that You will ALWAYS be with us.

Oh how blessed we are. Thank You.

Thank You Lord.

The apostles returned to Jesus, and told Him all that they had done and taught. Mark 6:30

Lord, it must have been an exciting time for Your disciples to share with You all they had been doing. This was what they had watched You do and now they were doing these same thing too.

Thank You Lord for Mark’s account of what went on during Your life here on earth. We all love hearing what all was done.

Thank You for the scripture Lord.

Thank You Lord!

And the king (Herod) was exceedingly sorry; but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. (His wife’s daughter) And immediately the king sent a soldier of the guard and gave orders to bring his (John the Baptist) head. He went and beheaded him in the prison, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body, and laid it in a tomb. Mark 6:26 – 29

Lord this is so hard to understand. Why would something like this take the life of someone that had given his all to call others to ‘come follow You.’ What a horrible way to die. It just doesn’t seem right. But then there are a lot of things that don’t seem right because we can’t see them through Your eyes Lord. I’m so glad You know all and see all.

Thank You that I don’t have to be in control. I can leave those decisions up to You.

Thank You Lord.

And she (Herodias daughter) went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” (Herod had said she could have anything because she danced before him.) And she said, “The head of John the baptizer.” And she came in immediately with haste to the king, (Herod) and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” Mark 6:24, 25

Lord we think there are terrible things going on today in this world but this happened long ago and what a horrible thought to even think something like this. Herodias hated John the Baptist because he told Herod it wasn’t right that he took his brother’s wife. Now she was going to get her revenge. She wanted the head of John the Baptist. What was Herod going to do now. So far he had been able to work around what she thought of John. Now Herod was backed in a corner.

Thank You Lord that You are always with us even when we are backed into a corner. We know You are with us and we thank You.

Thank You Lord. Thank You….

But an opportunity came (for Herodias) when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers and officers, and the leading men of Galilee. For when Herodias daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will grant it.” And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom.” Mark 6:21 – 24

Lord our lives are in Your hands.

Thank You for faith to believe and trust You.

Oh that we could enjoy all You have given us.

Thank You for being with us each moment of every day.

Thank You Lord. . . . . . Thank You.
