And they (Pharisees and Herodians) came and said to Him, (Jesus) “Teacher, we know that You are true, and care for no man; for You do not regard the position of men, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them or should we not?” Mark 12:14, 15
Lord how sneaky these men were. First they give You a complement and then they ask something to try and catch You in their trap. They were doing everything possible to try and kill You. As we read on we will see Your words of wisdom once again.
Thank You Lord for wisdom. Thank You for asking us to come to You for answers. You are there and we thank You.
Thank You Lord.

And they (scribes and Pharisees) sent to Him (Jesus) some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to entrap Him in His talk. Mark 12:13
Lord we all know the end of this story. We all know that they never gave up,
Thank You Lord for scripture and the ability to sit at Your feet and listen and learn.
Thank You for the Holy Spirit that enlightens us and teaches us.
We are not on this earth alone Lord. You are here with us and we thank You.

And they (chief priests and scribes)tried to arrest Him but feared the multitude, for they perceived that He had told the parable against them; so they left Him and went away. Mark 12:12
Lord these men would not give up. They wanted to quiet You. Your popularity was gaining momentum and it scared them. They were losing control over the people.
Thank You Lord for those back then and those today that know and love You.
Thank You for Your help every moment of every day….You ARE there and we thank You.
Thank You Lord. Thank You.

What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others. Have you not read this scripture: ‘The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” Mark 12:9 – 11
Lord this whole parable was about what had happened before You came and then the rejection You were experiencing while here. It was the prophets that were destroyed. Over and Over they were killed. And now You were there talking with everyone and they wanted to kill You too.
Lord You not only came to redeem us You also came to give us a better way to live. You poured Your love into each of us. You gave us Your love so we could share it.
Thank You for coming to rescue us and set us on a different pathway.
Oh how wonderful it is Lord to know You and to love You.
Thank You for loving us with a love that is unconditional.
Thank You Lord.

He had still one other, a beloved son; finally he sent him to them, saying, “They will respect my son. But those tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. Mark 12:6 – 8
Lord this parable shows us how evil people can be when they don’t love You. There are many like this in the world today. These men never thought about anyone but themselves. As we say today ‘it was all about them and what they wanted.’
Thank You Lord that we don’t have to fall into the trap of the world.
Thank You for coming to rescue us and set us on a different pathway.
Oh how wonderful it is Lord to know You and to love You.
Thank You for loving us with a love that is unconditional.
Thank You. Thank You Lord.

And he sent another, and him they killed; and so with many others, some they beat and some they killed. Mark 12:5
Lord even when You were here there was violence. What did these tenants think….did they think they were never going to be caught. How sad these verses are.
Thank You Lord that You came to change us from the inside out. Oh how we need You Lord.
Thank You. Thank You Lord.

Again he sent to them another servant, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully. Mark 12:4
Lord what can we say about such behavior – cruel – ungrateful –self-centered. Sad very sad. We will learn what You have to teach us as we keep reading on.
I’m sure glad that You came to earth to redeem us. We are Your children. You love us and we love You.
Thank You. Thank You Lord.

And they took him and beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. Mark 12:3
Lord there are those that are cruel. Even when given everything they are still cruel. These tenants were very cruel.
Lord that could be us apart from Your loving spirit You put within us that follow You. Oh no we are not perfect but as we walk with You we learn how to become more and more like You and we thank You for it.
Thank You for Your help and strength Lord. You are always there and we thank You.
Thank You Lord.

And He (Jesus) began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit for the wine press, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country. Mark 12:1
When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. Mark 12:2
Lord You were talking about things that would have been very common. Those listening would understand it and remember it. We too remember stories and these were like stories.
As we continue to sit at Your feet and listen we will understand what You are trying to teach all those that were listening.
Thank You Lord that we too can listen as we read the Bible. You are speaking and we need but listen. Oh how we thank You.
Thank You Lord.

Lord – why parables – and then the thought came to me that parables not only cause us to think – they cause us to remember. They are great teaching tools and You were a great teacher.
Thank You Lord for minds that can grasp and learn.
Thank You for hearts that are open to let You teach us because that is how our lives are changed into Your image.
Thank You for the joy of knowing and serving You.
We are so, so blessed and we thank YOU.
Thank You Lord. Thank You.
