As charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife. Proverbs 26:21
Lord….Solomon knew there were those that loved to stir up trouble. He wanted his son to be wise and stay away from them.
Thank You for helping us stay away from them too Lord.
Thank You for Your wisdom Lord we need it every day of our lives.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

For lack of wood the fire goes out; and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases. Proverbs 26:20
Lord….Solomon certain had a way of telling his son what he wanted him to remember. It makes me remember it too and understand it very well. How true it is. When we come from love there is no need to whisper or quarrel.
Thank You for giving us the desire to become more and more like You.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

Fret not yourself because of evil-doers and be not envious of the wicked; for the evil man has no future; the lamp of the wicked will be put out. Proverbs 24:19, 20
Lord it must have been true in Solomon’s day just as it is true in our day that some of the most evil people are envied because of their health and wealth. Often it seems they have everything and the ‘good’ people that love You are suffering and live in poverty.
Thank You Lord that those of us that love and serve You know that our reward is not earthly. We know that we will spend all eternity with You Lord. Oh how we praise and thank You.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man without sense; and lo, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. Then I saw and considered it; I looked and received instruction. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. Proverbs 24:30 – 34
Lord how true it is what Solomon is saying. It doesn’t take much resting and it seems everything falls apart.
Thank You for the energy You provide for us to get the things accomplished that we need to do.
Thank You for helping us each and every day. We need Your help Lord and thank You for it.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprove to a listening ear. Proverbs 25:12
Lord there is value in listening to the wise even when they say things about us we would rather not hear. So often we don’t see the things we are doing that are causing us harm. There are times we need to have someone else point them out to us. This is when we need You because You are there to help us change. You give us the strength and wisdom to be different. You open our eyes of understanding. You give us peace in the midst of our struggles to change. You are there loving us unconditionally. Oh how we thank You and praise You.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

Trust in a faithless man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips. Proverbs 25:19
Lord the vivid illustrations that Solomon is giving his son certainly helps him remember for a lifetime what his father is trying to teach him. Solomon was trying to instill his wisdom into his son. He like all of us parents want the very best for our children.
Thank You for Solomon’s wisdom that teaches all of us.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, is the man who deceived his neighbor and says, “I am only joking!” Proverbs 26:18, 19
Lord…over and over Solomon is teaching his son that other people and relationships matter. He uses the term neighbor often in teaching his son respect.
Thank You Lord for wonderful neighbors. And yet Lord there are those too that we have to work at loving. Thank You for helping us change into Your likeness in getting along with even those that are hard for us to love. You are there. You do help and we thank You.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

He who meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears. Proverbs 26:17
Lord….Solomon sure put this bluntly in trying to teach his son. It’s a good lesson for us. Usually what happens is both people involved get upset with the meddler.
Thank You that we have You to turn to Lord. We often see totally different when we look to You for answers. Thank You for always being there to answer. We are blessed.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! There is a lion in the street!” As a door turns on its hinges, so does a sluggard on his bed. The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth. The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer discreetly. Proverbs 26:13 – 16
Lord…Solomon continues to warn his son of the pitfalls of not working. He is showing him the down side of being lazy and not only lazy but also proud.
Thank You for helping us Lord to follow Your directions. Thank You for helping us become all that You are calling us to be.
We love You Lord and we thank You.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. Proverbs 26:12
Lord….this is so wisely spoken. Thank You for Solomon’s wisdom that he is sharing with his son and now it is being shared with us.
Humility is certainly something to pray for. It is needed to help us learn. It also helps us pray more and ask Your help and guidance.
Thank You for the strength in humility.
Thank You Lord.
Amen
