(Jesus continued)  “And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat’; and it happens.  You hypocrites!  You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky; but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?”  Luke 12:55, 56

Lord are we any different than these people?  I don’t think so.  How much have we seen and yet how many don’t believe yet.

Thank You Lord for Your loving patience.

Thank You for loving us unconditionally.

Thank You for continuing to show us Your pathway.

Thank You for the joy of knowing and serving You.

Thank You Lord.

He (Jesus) also said to the multitudes, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it happens.”  Luke 13:54

Lord You so often used the every day illustrations to make Your point to the multitudes. This was something that was common in those days when there were no Meteorologist to predict what the weather would be for the day.  They all watched the sky to predict what was going to happen.  They understood what You were saying to them.

Lord thank You that You care about everything in our lives.

Thank You that You tried Your best to show everyone who You were and why You had come.

Thank You for calling us all.

Thank You for giving us all the opportunity to follow You.

Thank You for those of us that hear and answer the call.

Thank You for those of us that want to follow You.

Thank You for helping us stay close to You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth?  No, I tell you, but rather division; for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against her mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.  Luke 12:51 – 53

Lord this is not a very pretty picture You are painting.  These people are no different than we are today.  They were looking for a peaceful life just as we want a peaceful life today.  What are we to learn from these verses that could cause us unrest.  What are you asking these people to see.

Thank You Lord that even though there is strife there is peace within.

Thank You that You are showing us once again that things may not be peaceful on the outside but we can have peace on the inside.

Thank You for giving us the strength to stand for You even when we have to stand alone.

Thank You that we are not called to understand everything but we are called to take up our cross and follow You.

Thank You for Your strength and Your wisdom.

Thank You for the joy within when we do the right things that You ask us to do.

Thank You that we are loved unconditionally and it sure is a good thing Lord because we fail so often.

Thank You for picking us up and helping us.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “But if God so clothes the grass which is alive in the field today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O men of little faith!”   Luke 12:28

Faith.

Trust.

Confidence.

Lord thank You that when we look to You we are given the faith to believe.

Thank You for teaching us to trust.

Thank You for helping us believe when we don’t think we have it within us to believe.

Thank You for always keeping Your watchful eye upon us.

Thank You for Your promises Lord.  We have it all Lord because of You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I am constrained until it is accomplished!”  Luke 12:50

Lord I just wanted to think on these thoughts again.  With all that is going on in the world today the financial situation certainly could cause concern.  While I did not live during the depression my parents did and my life was affected by what had happened in their lives during those hard, hard times.  In thinking on this verse and the history of it my mind has gone to all that happened when You were here on earth.  I cannot help but wonder – what are Your constraints today?  What is going on?  What is Your plan?

Thank You Lord for faith to believe that You have our lives in Your hands.

Thank You for a peace that only You can give when times are not what we would want them to be.

Thank You for taking our fear and replacing it with trust.

Thank You that we can know that You have a perfect plan for this earth and all people here today.

Thank You for prayers and Your answers as we look to You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I am constrained until it is accomplished!”  Luke 12:50

Lord certainly over and over I am the first to say Your ways are certainly different from my ways of thinking.  This verse is a perfect example of the differences in our thoughts.  You came with the truth to draw all men to You and yet You had to constrain Yourself.  Very interesting.

Thank You Lord that with faith and trust my eyes are opened to Your truths.

Thank You that by walking and talking and listening to You I see the truths that You want me to see.

Thank You for You patience and understand and unconditional love while I stumble.

Thank You for always being there to pick me up and show me a better way.

Thank You for calling me to follow You.

I am blessed and forgiven.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled!”  Luke 13:49

Lord these are hard words for us to hear because we want to hear of peace.  There was no peace on earth when You were here and there is no peace on earth today.

Thank You Lord that the outer world cannot destroy our inner peace.

Thank You for the comforter You left behind when You left the earth physically.

Thank You for the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

Thank You for the joy of our salvation.

Thank You for the hope of Your coming again.

All blessing and gifts from You Lord and I thank You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating.  Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.”  Luke 12:48

Lord this verse puts us all on the carpet.  Who of us does all that is required.  I know of very few.  It is so easy to let the cares of this world crowd out the joys of serving You.

And then Lord here you talk about the person that didn’t do the right thing because they didn’t realize what the right thing was.  They still got a beating.  A light beating but none the less they received a beating.   Thus this shows us that ignorance is no excuse.  The person was still help accountable.

Thank You once again Lord for Your unconditional love.

Thank You that even when we are like the unfaithful servant You call us back to Yourself.

Thank You that when we go through hard times because of our ignorance or self will You use those things in our lives to bring us closer to You when we have a repentant heart.

Thank You for Your patience and understanding Lord.

Oh how I need it each day of my life.

Thank You Lord.

10/6/08

(Jesus continued)  “And that servant who knew his mater’s will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating.”  Luke 12:47

Lord You had a lot to say to us in this parable.  It was the lessons in life that we all need to know.  It is the ‘right’ things that we all should be doing but they are not the easy things to do.  So often we want our own way and find ourselves doing our own thing and that is what this parable is all about.  Who of us is faithful?  Who of us does the right thing?  It is the one that does the right thing that is rewarded.  It is the one that is faithful to You that reaps the reward.

Thank You Lord for Your mercy.

Thank You that You are patient with us and keep calling us to be faithful.

Thank You for Your wisdom that helps us make the best choices.

Thank You that You are right beside us to help us.

Thank You for our rewards for following You.

Thank You Lord.

10/3/08

(Jesus continued)  “But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful.”  Luke 12:45, 46

Lord this picture is not pretty when a servant chose to be unfaithful.

Our picture is not pretty either when we chose to be unfaithful for we lose our peace and joy.

Thank You that with Your help we can be like the watchful servant.

Thank You for being with us to help us stay close to You.

Thank You for the peace and joy that can be ours even in difficult situations when we stay close to You and listen to Your voice.

Thank You for making all things possible when we believe in You and accept Your calling.

Thank You for our days that are filled with blessings because of You.

Thank You Lord.
