(Jesus continued)  “Every one who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.”  Luke 16:18

Lord this was certainly a hot topic when You were here on earth.  It remains a hot topic today also.  We can read Your words according to Luke’s account and accept them for what they say.  I wonder Lord are we any different today than these Pharisees back then.  What would you say to us today with our divorce rate so high.

Lord I humbly bow and thank You for forgiveness.

Thank You Lord that I don’t have to have answers only trust.

Thank You that You know all about me and still love me unconditionally.

Thank You Lord for helping me through my divorce and continuing to help me through each day for the past twenty-one years.

Thank You that I can trust You and know that You will help me today too.

You are always with me and I thank and praise You for Your strength.

I am forgiven.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one dot of the law to become void.”  Luke 16:17

Lord it is so hard for us to give up what we feel is right.  The Pharisees were so sure that following the law was the right way that when You talked with them they didn’t believe You.  You knew it was very hard for them to give up one of their laws and follow what You were talking to them about.

Forgive us Lord when we are the same today.

Open our eyes of understanding and our ears to hear the truth.

Thank You Lord that You are waiting to hear our cries for help.

Thank You for forgiveness and mercy.

Thank You that You love us in spite of who we are and what we do or don’t do.

Oh that we could be like You Lord in all our ways.

Thank You for Your unconditional love that knows no limits.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “The law and the prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and every one enters it violently.”  Luke 16:16

Lord you never painted an easy road for us in following You.  And yet it is the only way to have a life of peace.

Thank You for calling us to come and follow You.

Thank You that You want us.

Thank You that we don’t have to know all the mysteries that are not revealed to us before we can trust and obey You.

Thank You for faith….a faith that trusts and believes.

Thank You for helping our unbelief and comforting us.

Thank You Lord.

But He (Jesus) said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”  Luke 16:15

Oh Lord forgive us for not having our priorities straight.

Forgive us for wanting the praise of men rather than Your praise.

Thank You again for waiting to hear our cries when we so often slip and fall.

Thank You for picking us up and helping us to start over again and again.

Thank You for forgiveness.

Thank You for renewed joy and peace.

Thank You Lord.

The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at Him (Jesus).  Luke 16:14

Lord what is there about human nature that when we don’t agree with someone we scoff at them.  We are no different today than these Pharisees were in Your day.  So many today want everyone to have their same viewpoint and go their way which they believe is the right way and only way.

Again Lord I must thank You for continuing to love us and call us to be different.

Thank You for continuing to love us with Your unconditional, understanding love.

Thank You that we know You and love You and want to walk and talk with You.

Thank You that You wait and want to hear our voice.

We are blessed.  We are loved.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon.”  Luke 16:13

Lord thank You for Your patience with us.

I have heard this verse and tried to live by it ever since I was a young child.  And yet…can I do it any better today than when I was a child.  I think not but I keep trying.

Thank You for Your unconditional love that calls me on.

Thank You for Your understanding when I slip and fall.

Thank You for never giving up on me.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches?  And if you have not been faithful in that which is anothers, who will give you that which is your own?”  Luke 16:11, 12

Thank You Lord for always being with us.

Thank You for always pointing us to the cross.

Thank You for Your life that gives us Your example.

Thank You that all things are possible to those that believe.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much.”  Luke 16:10

Lord how true this is.  Once someone has been caught in a ‘white’ lie it is very hard to believe anything they say.  This steward was dishonest in everything he did right down to the end of the story.

Thank You Lord for Your help in keeping us honest.

Thank You for always being there when we cry out for help.

Thank You for knowing us and understanding.

Thank You for Your forgiveness.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “And I tell you, make friends of yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal habitations.”   Luke 16:9

Lord this is an interesting explanation of Your story about the steward.  Those listening were the friends You were talking about that had to do things for each other to be liked.  You were reminding them that they must continue to do that because that was all they had and in the end that conniving way would fail.

Thank You Lord for helping us see that You are the only way.

Thank You that You always show us the way to follow You.

Thank You for helping us as we stumble and fall to get up and continue our journey with You.  .

Thank You for Your peace in the midst of the storms.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued)  “The master commended the dishonest steward for his prudence; for the sons of this world are wiser in their own generation than the sons of light.  Luke 16:8

Lord this is an interesting end to this story.  The master commended the dishonest steward and pointed out how in his dishonesty he looked out for himself at the master’s cost.  His dishonesty had still cost him his job.  His actions certainly showed the master that he had made the right decision in getting rid of him.

Thank You Lord for showing us what this man was like.

Thank You a conscience to know right from wrong.

Thank You for helping us make the right decision.

Thank You for the peace and joy of following you.

Thank You Lord.
