And He (Jesus) said to him (returning leper), “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”  Luke 17:19

This is the last verse Lord of a some what puzzling story.  Ten lepers were healed and yet only one came back to thank You for the healing.  Now You are telling the one that was healed that it was his faith that had made him well and to go on his way.  What are we to see in this story?  What are we to learn as we let You show us what we need to know.  What are we to learn about faith and the changes it can make in our lives when we truly believe.

Thank You Lord for this story.

Thank You Lord that it reminds me that I must remember to thank You.

Thank You for showing me how easy it is in the excitement of an answered prayer to forget to thank You.  I too have done that Lord just like the other nine lepers.

Thank You for Your forgiveness and unconditional love.

Thank You for faith.

Thank You for healing.

Thank You Lord.

And He (Jesus) said to him, (thankful leper) “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”  Luke 17:19

Thank You Lord for a faith that can make us well.

Thank You for healing us both physically and emotionally.

Thank You that You heal us all and in this story the healing came to a Samaritan.  Samaritans were hated by the Jewish people in Your day.  But You still healed that leper because You love us all equally.

We ARE loved!

Thank You Lord.

Then Jesus said, “Were not ten cleansed?  Where are the nine?  Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”  Luke 17:17, 18

Lord how sad that of the ten healed only one came back to thank You.

Thank You for that one leper that didn’t run off like all the others but returned to You to thank You.

Thank You Lord that just because the others didn’t come to thank You it didn’t stop You from continuing to heal others.

Thank You for knowing us and seeing our shortcomings and still loving us.

Thank You for Your gentle reminders when I forget to thank You Lord or when I don’t see all that You have given me so I fail to thank You.

Thank You for the joy in serving You.  What a gift it is.

Thank You Lord.

Then one of them, (lepers) when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks.  Now he was a Samaritan.  Luke 17:15, 16

Lord, I can see a vivid picture of a man that was doomed to be an outcast all his life until he died as a leper.  Now he is well.  The priest has pronounced him clean.  He can go back into society a healed man.  He was elated.  This was a spectacular sight to behold as the leper praised God.

Thank You Lord for healing.

Thank You for Your healing.

Thank You that You are there when we cry out to You just as You were there for the 10 lepers.

Thank You for Your unconditional love that loves us just as we are but too much to leave us as we are because You have so much more for our lives.

We are truly blessed Lord.

Thank You Lord.

When He (Jesus) saw them (lepers) He said to them,  “Go and show yourselves to the priests.”  Luke 17:14

Lord when we read the accounts of when You were on earth it is interesting how many different ways people were healed by You. So often I find that it took the faith of the people in order for them to be healed.  Here was another case like that.  Leper must go to the priest before they can enter back into society.  The priest was the one that made the decision if they were healed or not.   You told these lepers to go and show themselves to the priests.  They knew exactly what You meant by that.

Thank You Lord for faith to believe.

Thank You for Easter and all it meant to us.

Thank You for the hope that You give us all when we put our faith in You.

Thank You for preparing a place for us to spend all eternity with You.

Faith!   Trust!   Forgiveness!  All are ours because of You Lord.

Thank You Lord.

And as He (Jesus) entered a village, He was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”  Luke 17:12, 13

Lord whenever I read about lepers it takes me right back to my visit with the lepers that were placed on the island of Hay Lin Chow away from society because of their disease.  Thank You for Rena that left her home in Scotland and came as a medical doctor to help them.   How sad it was to see these lepers with fingers and noses gone and other body parts gone because of the horrible disease of leprosy.  It makes me understand this verse and know how desperate these lepers were as they cried out to you.  They wanted healing and You were there only answer at that time.  I am so grateful for the medication today that has eliminated the horrible destruction of this disease.

Lord I have to thank You first for the gift of modern medicine and the difference in the lives of all of us by eliminating the dread of this disease of leprosy and so many other diseases.

Thank You for hearing these lepers’ cries.

Thank You for hearing us as we so often cry out to You.

Thank You Lord for always being there for us.

Thank You Lord.

On the way to Jerusalem he (Jesus) was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.  Luke 17:11

Thank You Lord for always being on the move to touch lives and make a difference.

Thank You for Luke’s account and all he witnessed and shared.

Thank You for coming to earth to show us how to live.

Thank You for each nugget we can glean out of Your scripture to help us live lives that are more like You.

Thank You for Your death on the cross.

Thank You for rising again to give us life everlasting.

And best of all Lord we thank You that You will come again that where You are we may be also.

We are humbled.  We are blessed.  We are forgiven.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Will any one of you, who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep, say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down at table’?  Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and gird yourself and serve me, till I eat and during; and afterward you shall eat and drink’?  Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?  So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”  Luke 17:7 – 10

Lord these are interesting verses because they tell me that we today are no different than the people back then.  We work and are paid and yet that isn’t enough for many who are constantly complaining that they are not ‘recognized’ for what they do.  You were showing these people listening that a servant is a servant.  That servant was there to serve.

Thank You Lord that You love us unconditionally.

Thank You for Your love even when we complain about our lot in life.

Lord when we look around there is so much to thank You for and yet we don’t see it and complain.

Thank You for You patience with us calling us on to become more like You.

Thank You for Your reminder today that we are here to serve You.

Thank You Lord.

And the Lord said, “If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this sycamine tree, ‘Be rooted up, and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”  Luke 17:6

Lord when You give us that picture of faith I doubt I could even see my faith.  It would have to be under a microscope.  I had a necklace when I was in high school that had a mustard seed and it was very small.  Oh how we need You Lord.

Thank You that You are there to help us when we need more faith.

Thank You for Your power that is ours for the asking.

Thank You for Your peace in knowing that You know us and You care.

We are so, so blessed because of You Lord.

Thank You Lord.

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”  Luke 17:5

Lord how often I have prayed for the same thing.  It is often very hard to trust when things are not as I think they should be.  I so often ask for more faith to believe and trust.

Thank You Lord that You are always with us.

Thank You for hearing our cries for help.

Thank You that You answer with the best possible answer when we call.

Thank You for knowing all about us and what is best for our lives.

Thank You for the peace that You bring in the midst of the storms.

We are blessed Lord and I thank You.

Thank You Lord.
