Thought For Today

And taking the twelve, He (Jesus) said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written on the Son of man by the prophets will be accomplished.”  Luke 18:31

Lord what must the disciples have thought when You said that.

We know what You were talking about and they did too because they had the Old Testament scriptures.

We see this as history but they were living through it.

Thank You for their faith in You.

Thank You that they continued to follow You.

Thank You for Luke’s account so we can learn from You Lord.

Thank You that we are still learning from You today as we listen to You.

Thank You Lord.

And He (Jesus) said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no man who has left house or wife or brother or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive manifold more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”  Luke 18:29, 30

Lord, thank You for the gift of eternal life.

Thank You too for the gift of peace that is ours when we keep our eyes upon you.

Thank You that we have it all because we follow and trust You.

We are blessed so very, very blessed because of You.

And Peter said, “Lo we have left our homes and followed you.”  Luke 18:28

Thank You Lord that when we hear Your voice and have Your call we listen.

Thank You for Peter’s willingness to leave all and follow You.

Thank You for the things that scripture teaches us about him.

Thank You that we can see his strengths as well as his weaknesses and that gives us hope as we stumble and fall on our walk with You.

Thank You for holding our hand as we walk and talk with You.

We are not alone on our walk and I thank You Lord.

Thank You for the joy in serving You.

Thank You Lord.

But He (Jesus) said, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”  Luke 18:27

Lord, thank You for the joy in knowing that ‘Prayer changes Things.’

Thank You that we don’t have to understand everything about our lives when we are trusting them to You.

Thank You for the impossible changes that are made only because of Your love for us.

Humbly I bow.  Humbly I thank You.  Humbly I trust You.

Thank You Lord.

Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”  Luke 18:26

Thank You Lord that You came to bring us life and a life more abundant than we could ever have immagined.

Thank You for giving us Your life.

Thank You for Your example.

Thank You that You give Your salvation to everyone that believes.

What love!

Jesus looking at him (ruler) said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!  For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”  Luke 18:24, 25

Thank You Lord that You know all about us.

Thank You that You know that we can become very self sufficient and feel we don’t need You when all our wants and desires are met.

Thank You for seeing our greed.

Thank You for being patient and understand while You wait for us to come to You.

Oh Lord, Your unconditional love amazes me and I thank You for it.

But when he (ruler) heard this he became sad, for he was very rich.  Luke 18:23

Lord how hard it is for us to change.  Even though we often know that change is best for us it is still very hard.

This man was very rich and You were asking him to give up everything he had and come follow You.  He became very sad because it mean he would have to change everything that he loved and enjoyed.  Oh how we all can identify with him.  It is one thing to choose to change and another thing to change because we are forced into that change.

There are many people today that are forced to change because of the economy.  This man was different.  He was given the choice.

Thank You Lord that when You call us to change You are right there with us.

Thank You that when changes are forced upon us You are there too.

We have You with us no matter what and that is the good news Lord.

Thank You Lord that You give us peace in the midst of changes as we trust You.

Thank You that  we can make it holding Your hand and trusting.

Thank You Lord.

And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, (ruler) “One thing you still lack.  Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”   Luke 18:22

Thank You Lord that You know all about us.

Thank You that nothing is hidden from You.

Thank You for touching those areas in our lives that need Your touch.

Thank You for helping us through those hard times in life when change is necessary.

Thank You that we are never alone because You are always with us.

Oh how we need You Lord.

Thank You for always being there.

Thank You Lord.

And he (ruler) said, “All these I have observed from my youth.”  Luke 18:21

Lord before You came and died for our redemption there was a list of things that every Jewish person tried to observe.  You came to do away with that list of dos and don’t because no one was good enough.

This man tells You that he has kept all the things you asked him about since his youth.  In other words we see a very good man talking with You.

Thank You Lord for the good people on this earth.

Thank You that You came to give us all more than just being ‘good’ people.

Thank You for the changes in our lives when we commit our lives to You.

Thank You that we are changed into Your likeness Lord.

Thank You that we are whole because of You.

Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continue talking to the ruler)  “You know the commandments:  ‘Do not steal, Do not bear false witness.  Honor your father and mother.”  Luke 18:20

Lord, the ruler listened to what You had to say to him.  He knew the law and what he needed to do.

Lord we listen and so often know the right thing to do and yet have trouble doing the right thing too.

Thank You Lord for guiding and directing us.

Thank You for showing us the best way to live our lives.

Thank You for being our example.

Thank You for giving us the privilege of following You.

Thank You Lord.
