Jesus said to him, (Satan) “Again it is written, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” Matthew 4:7
Lord, how interesting that You would tell Satan that You were his God. No doubt that made him even more angry.
Thank You Lord that You are our Lord and our savior.
Thank You for the gift of Your power and Your unconditional love.
Oh how blessed we are.
Thank You Lord.

Then the devil took Him (Jesus) to the holy city, and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will give His angels charge of You,’ and ‘On their hands they will bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’” Matthew 4:5, 6
Oh Lord how vulnerable we are to Satan. He is cunning and baffling in all his ways. He sounds so right and yet he is so wrong.
Thank You Lord for the power You give us to listen and follow You.
Thank You that we know that You are greater.
Thank You for having all power in heaven and on earth.
With You as our guide and protector we have it all Lord.
Thank You. Thank You Lord.

And the tempter (Satan) came and said to Him, (Jesus) “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” Matthew 4:3
Thank You Lord for showing us that we will all be tempted sometime in our lives.
Thank You for showing us how to resist temptation and follow You.
Thank You for being our example but not only our example You guide us on the right pathway.
We are humbled. We feel so blessed.
Thank You Lord.

And He (Jesus) fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward He was hungry. Matthew 4:2
Lord, You were ‘led’ by the ‘Spirit’ into the wilderness. You fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. Now You are hungry.
Why? What benefit was it? What example were You trying to leave us?
We are told that some changes will not happen without fasting and prayer. Was this the example You wanted to leave us?
One thing I know – – no matter what You call us to do in our lifetime You are always there to help us.
Oh how we need You Lord. Oh how we thank You. Thank You for the gift of Your love for us.
Thank You Lord.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:1
Lord, this is an interesting verse. You were ‘led’ to do something that was not something anyone would have chosen to do. You were led by the ‘Spirit’ to be tempted.
No one likes to be tempted because we then have to resist something that we want or something we want to do. Not easy to do and not something that is fun to do.
And yet Lord, You the Son of God were tempted and we will see how You resisted that temptation as we read on.
Thank You Lord for being our example.
Thank You for giving us the strength and the power to resist with Your help just as You did.
Oh how fortunate we are to have You as our guide.
Thank You…. Thank You Lord.

And when Jesus was baptized, He went up immediately from the water and behold, the heaven were opened and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on Him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16, 17
Lord what a wonderful day this must have been for John. He was obedient to his calling and he was given the privilege of baptizing You. The dove descends. The voice comes from heaven. John witnessed it all.
Lord, thank You that we have the privilege of reading this account and knowing what went on that day.
Thank You for showing us how important it was for You to be baptized.
Thank You for Your example.
Oh how we thank You.
Thank You Lord.

John would have prevented Him, (Jesus) saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. John 3:14, 15
Lord this must have been an awesome thing for John to baptize You. He listened to You when You explained why You wanted to be baptized. He not only listened but he obeyed.
Thank You Lord for those we read about in scripture that obeyed.
Thank You for helping us obey Your calling upon our lives.
How blessed we are that You would choose us for a vessel.
Thank You! Thank You Lord.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. Matthew 3:13
Thank You Lord for taking on the human form of man.
Thank You for coming to John to be baptized.
Baptism is a wonderful gift. It allows us to show the whole world that we are following You.
We do love You Lord and long to serve You.
Thank You for giving us the desire to live for You.
Thank You Lord.

(John continued) “Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I baptize you with water for repentance, but He (Jesus) who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the granary, but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.” John 3:10 – 12
Oh Lord – what an example John was of someone so selfless that he point others to You. It wasn’t about him at all Lord – it was all about You. He lived totally to do Your will.
Thank You Lord for John and his example to all of us.
We love You Lord.
Thank You for using us too.
Thank You Lord.
