Thought For Today

(Jesus continued talking with His 12 disciples) “When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel, before the Son of man comes.” Matthew 10:23

Lord, I think that is what You would tell us to do today too. There are those that don’t want to hear about You. I think You would say ….walk on…there are those that do want to hear. Perhaps there will come a day when they will have tried everything else and found it didn’t work so they will be ready to listen then.

My mind goes back to my experience in Hong Kong with a young man looking over the very high walkway. He was at the end of his journey in trying everything he could try and was contemplating ending his life when I walked up to him to tell him that You loved him. I have often wondered Lord what happened to Wally after our conversation. I could sense he was changed. He knew it was You speaking to him. So….we never know Lord who is going to be upon our pathway and what words You will fill our mouths with. Just as You told the disciples You would give them the words to say, You give us the words to say today too Lord. Oh how blessed we are because You used not only Your 12 disciples of old but You use us today too. How we thank You.

(Jesus continued) “Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all for My names sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.” Matthew 10:21, 22

Lord, what a sad time. My heart cries out ….where is the love? Where is the love? What has happened to their world? What is happening to our world Lord. No prayers in our public schools. You are being pushed more and more into the background. Our hearts cry out to You Lord. Where is the love ….. Where is the love ….. And the song goes ….”And they’ll know we are Christians by our love…by our love… and they’ll know we are Christians by our love….’

Oh Lord may this be our motto and our goal. We love You Lord and know that You are on our side. Thank You for wanting the best for us and giving us Your power and strength to do Your will.

Thank You for never leaving us alone. You are always with us Lord and we thank You.

(Jesus continued talking with his 12 disciples) “When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” Matthew 10:19, 20

Lord, first You told them that it would not be easy for them to go out and do all sorts of wonderful things in Your name because there would be those that didn’t like them. They would try and destroy them. Now You tell them not to be anxious because Your Spirit will speak through them and tell them what to say. How awesome is that Lord.

Lord over and over we hear how You meet our every need. This is another example You show us Your provision. You are always there to bring us just what we need when we need it. We need not fear or be anxious because You are with us though everything in our live.

Oh how we thank You. Thank You Lord.

(Jesus continued) “Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for My name sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles.” Matthew 10:17, 18

Lord, You are not painting a very pretty pictures for Your disciples to leave on. You tell them what is going to happen to them because they go out in Your name. Hearing all they will be able to do in Your name and what might happen because they do those things would negate anyone wanting to do anything.

Thank You for Your help Lord.

Thank You for not sending us out into the wolves without a back up plan. You are always there and we thank You.

(Jesus continued) “Behold, I send you (12 disciples) out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16

Lord, You told Your disciples to go out and spread the gospel. You told them they would have authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. Now You are telling them that they are going out as sheep in the midst of wolves. They must be wise and innocent.

What a command Lord. One would think everyone would want what they had to offer but that certainly wasn’t the case. There were those that wanted to devour them. There were those that were totally against them. Hard to understand but it was true of Your life Lord and it was true of their lives.

Thank You Lord for being with them through each trial they had just as You are with us through each trial we have.

Thank You for helping us be all You want us to be. We are not alone Lord. You are right there beside us every step of the way. Oh how we thank You for the assurance You give us. Thank You.

(Jesus continued) “And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town. Truly, I say to you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.” Matthew 10:14

Lord You send us out into our ‘world’ every day with Your message in our hearts. There are those that want to hear it and those that don’t. Our ‘world’ is no different today than the world was in the time when You were walking upon this earth. You are with us just as You were with Your disciples. You have a mission for us to fulfill just as You had a mission for Your disciples that were hearing these words.

Thank You Lord for guiding and directing us and helping us become all You want us to be.

We are not alone. You are by our side. Thank You.

(Jesus continued) “As you enter the house, salute it. And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it but if the house is not worthy, let your peace return to you.” Matthew 10:12, 13

Thank You Lord for the gift of peace…..and it truly is Your gift to us.

Thank You for allowing us to remain – abide- in Your peace.

You promised us peace when You left this earth and we thank You

(Jesus continued talking with his disciples) “Take no gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts, no bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the laborer deserves his food. And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it, and stay with him until you depart.” Matthew 10:9 – 11

Lord, my mind can’t help but put myself in their shoes. How would I have felt going out with the thought that not knowing anyone I would be taken care of. There would be someone in each town that would allow me to stay with them overnight and feed and help me with whatever I needed. Once again that took faith. Faith to believe that what You were saying to them would work.

Thank You Lord for faith to believe the impossible.

Thank You for giving us the faith to believe what we have not seen.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

(Jesus continued talking with his disciple) “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without pay, give without pay.” Matthew 10:8

Lord, You are giving the disciples the authority to do exactly what You had done while they watched. You were now commanding them to do what You had done. What an exciting but scary time this must have been for them. They believed in You and now they were going to be put to the test.

Thank You Lord for the power that only You can give.

Thanks You for these men that were going to go out and do exactly what You asked them to do. You had given them the power to do great and mighty things in Your name.

Thank You for their examples Lord.

(Jesus continued talking with his disciples) “And preach as you go, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 10:2

Thank You Lord for the message You brought when here on earth.

Thank You for showing Your disciples what they were to do as they followed You.

Thank You for giving them willing hearts to follow what You asked of them.

Thank You for helping us have willing hearts too as we too follow You.

You are always with us. Oh how we thank You!
